Cecilia Tinghino

Obituary of Cecilia Tinghino

Cecilia W. Tinghino passed away peacefully surrounded by family and the snow outside on December 6, 2013. She was 93. Cecilia was born April 28, 1920 to Amelia (Ludwig) and John Ross in Kearny, New Jersey. Among her many accomplishments, Cecilia raised three boys by herself, was a pioneer for Fair Housing and for women in real estate while running a successful brokerage, The McCarthy Agency, for decades in Closter, New Jersey, and served as president of the New Jersey Board of Realtors in the 70’s. Earlier in life Cecilia was an exceptional vocal soloist of sacred works in the New York/New Jersey area. She was considered a “fashion maven” by many and exuded glamor wherever she went, even in her final years. She enjoyed travel abroad, especially her trips to Italy, and she told great stories of her European relatives on both sides and their experiences after emigrating here. She moved to the West Coast to be near her gaggle of grandchildren and lived in Eugene for 25 years. She is survived by her sons Thomas McCarthy and his wife, Diane, from Los Angeles, Gregg McCarthy from Eugene, and Bruce McCarthy and his wife, Maida, from Eugene, as well as her seven loved and loving grandkids. She touched the lives not only of her family and friends, but of total strangers, by engaging them in conversation and leaving them with smiles on their faces. She will always be remembered by her loved ones as a strong-willed and incredibly generous woman of faith. She loved ferociously, and with all her heart. Mom, may butterflies and angels fly you to heaven’s gates and may you find there what you worked for here your whole life.https://picasaweb.google.com/bmccarthy777/Cecilia
