Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Shaw

Mary Elizabeth Shaw, 95 passed away on December 24, 2013 of a heart attack. She was born on December 28, 1917 in Greene County, Georgia, to Agnes and Wade Hampton Kimbro. Elizabeth moved to Atlanta when she was nine and graduated from Girls' High School. She married Claude D. Shaw in 1938 and had three daughters. They were married until his death in 1989. Elizabeth moved from Atlanta to Eugene, Oregon in 2000 to be near her daughter. Elizabeth was an avid gardener and an active member of several gardening clubs. She loved to travel and continued to do so into her nineties. She was active in her church, Wesley United Methodist. An accomplished seamstress, she took up quilting at age 90 as a new hobby. She was also an enthusiastic reader and visited the library weekly. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Claudia Hardwick, her son-in-law, John, and her granddaughters, Jennifer and Tracy. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughters Elaine and Mary Ellen, and her two brothers. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Wesley United Church or the Eugene Public Library.
