Obituary of Retha Shockey

Retha Martin Shockey died Jan.10, 2014 at age 94.Born Retha E. Martin on August 26, 1919 near Dwight, Kansas. Retha was the youngest of seven children; all of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews & great, great nieces and nephews.Retha attended school in the Council Grove, Kansas area, before she married Leon Shockey in 1943 in Lawrence, Kansas. They moved to Needles, California, then settled in Rialto, California. They both worked for Santa Fe Railroad for over 30 years. Retha moved to Sheldon Oaks Retirement Community in Eugene, Oregon in 2007 to be near nephew, Doug Griesel. She attended Garden Way ChurchRetha was the family historian, and kept in touch with her expanded and distant family. She is remembered for her strong faith, generous spirit, sharp mind and great sense of humor.A memorial will be held at Sheldon Oaks Retirement Center, 2525 Cal Young Rd at 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 19, 2014. A graveside service will be held at Green Acres Cemetery, in Bloomington, California on February 24, 2014 at 1pm.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
