Obituary of Muriel Irine Holt

HOLT: Muriel Irine: 1928-2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Valleyview Care Centre at the age of 83 years. Beloved wife of the late Thomas Holt of 66 years. Left to cherish Muriel's memory are her children Darlene (Doug) and Lynda both of Alberta, Donna (Lawrence) and Ernie (Audrey) both of Brandon, Ruth (Eric) (predeceased) and Trina (Kevin) of Winnipeg. Grandchildren Trevor (Linda) of Alberta, Laurie (predeceased), Keri (David) and Jodi (Jim) both of Alberta, Cindy (Randy) of Saskatchewan, Tracy (Barry) of Manitoba, Tim (Donna), Jack (Shelly) and Trina (Kevin) all of Winnipeg, great grandchildren Nicole, Natasha, Nalissa, Rian, Emma, Alexander, Andrew, Morgan, Bradley (Jazmine), Megan, Selena, Scott (Kimberley), Kyle, Andrea, Brandi, Colin, Brody and great great grandchild Taysen. Muriel was born in Brandon, MB on April 28, 1928 to parents Bill and Grace Randall (deceased). She had two brothers, Fred and Jim (both deceased) and two sisters, Sylvia Glover of Alta. and Gladys Cameron (deceased). Muriel grew up in Brandon and after her schooling she worked at the Prince Edward Hotel until meeting the love of her life, Tom. They were married in 1946 and from then on were devoted and inseparable. Mom had a golden protective heart and an unlimited supply of love for children. While raising her own family she decided to be a foster parent with Children Aide. She did this for 18 years, always saying her only wish was that she could have kept every one of the babies that came into her home. Family meant everything to her and she had a motto, "Life isn't always easy but we're all in this together." Mom had a generous spirit, was a loving wife, and a strong supportive mother that inspired us all. She was often seen putting the needs and comforts of others before her own. Mom took pride in the way she looked, nice clothes and hair done to perfection! She loved to bake and cook for everyone. Mom enjoyed putting puzzles together, reading magazines, playing cards and bingo, but knitting was her specialty! She enjoyed taking the grandchildren to Saturday matinees, summer vacations to Alberta, Nashville and the Minnedosa cabin, going shopping, attending dances or just going out for Sunday drives and ice cream. Upon retirement, Muriel and Tom resided in the Lions Manor where she joined the committee. Here she made many friends and when illness struck any of them, she didn't hesitate to visit them in the hospital. From there, they moved into Valleyview Care Centre. Even though mom's health had failed her, she fought hard until the very end. The special life we shared with her, the times she laughed, gave advice or simply listened, will be treasured and live on in our lives and memories forever. The family gratefully acknowledges Dr. Large and sincerely appreciates the respectful and professional care that our mom received from the staff at Valleyview Care Home. Following mom's wishes, cremation has already taken place and she was buried alongside her loving husband, Tom. A family interment was held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
