Obituary of Peter Paul Pochynok
POCHYNOK: Peter Paul of Brandon passed away suddenly on March 31st, 2012 at the age of 67 years. He was born November 20, 1944 in Brandon. Peter attended David Livingston School and completed his studies at Composite High, where he met his sweetheart of 45 years. He held various jobs before beginning work with Pearson Construction, and was an integral part in the building of the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium in 1967. Two years later, he started his career as Stage Manager at that same venue. This position gave him the opportunity to become an important part of the Performing Arts community. In 1986, he also assumed the position of General Manager at the WMCA, which he held until his retirement in 2009. During this time, Peter also served on the Board of the Brandon Dance Ensemble for 22 years. Peter enjoyed a variety of hobbies including carpentry, gardening, cooking and crosswords. His most memorable times were spent with family and friends at the cottage.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Carol, his only daughter Kathy, son in law Dave, and cherished granddaughter Kellie. He leaves his sister Polly (Bob) Fleming, nieces Barbie, Debbie and families, sister in law Adella Pochynok and nephew Mark. Peter also leaves his mother in law Kathleen Hominick, sisters in law Lynda (George) Sutherland, Barbara (Don) Stewart, niece Karrie Sutherland, and nephews Rory and Keel Stewart.
Peter is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Susan Pochynok, brother Mike Pochynok and father in law Nick Hominick.
Funeral service for Peter will be held Monday, April 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium, 205 – 20th Street, Brandon. Following a private graveside ceremony, friends and family are invited to attend a luncheon in the Grand Salon of the WMCA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Peter to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Unit 3, 824 – 18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7 or to the Diabetes Association, 727B – 10th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4G7.
