Obituary of Gwendolyn "Gwen" McDonald

McDONALD: Gwen, beloved wife of Richard and loving mother of Delea, passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 27, 2012. Gwen was born to Walter and Hedwick Kihn in Wynyard, SK on August 27, 1944. She spent her childhood in Jansen, SK. After completing high school, she obtained her teaching certificate and taught in many small towns in Saskatchewan. She met the love of her life, Richard, in Swift Current and they were married on July 18, 1970. They welcomed their daughter Delea on July 18, 1975. Through the years, they lived in several small towns across the prairies until they settled in Brandon in 1986. Gwen had retired from teaching to raise Delea. Once in Brandon, Gwen worked for home care for 25 years before retiring in 2010. Throughout her lifetime, Gwen was active in many sports and clubs such as the Lions and Kinettes. During the summer, you could always find her outside puttering in one of her many flowerbeds. She and Richard enjoyed travelling across Canada, and other countries seeking new experiences and adventures with friends and family. She was predeceased by her father, Walter Kihn, her father and mother-in-law Hector and Macey McDonald. She is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Delea (Alden) Moreau, her mother Hedwick Kihn, brothers Tom (Laurie) Kihn, Wally (Beryl) Kihn, sister-in-law Roberta (Roger) Desautels, step granddaughter Kristie (Wade) Harvey, step great grandchildren Lincoln and Sofia Harvey. She will be sadly missed by her best friend and soul sister Adele (Wayne) Warren and nephew David Warren, along with several other brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Out of respect for Gwen's wishes, cremation has taken place with no service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gwen's memory may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care," 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.
