Sincere condolences to Barry's family and friends. I met Barry back in the mid-60's while working at CKX-TV/Radio. I later produced a number of television and stage shows involving Barry, Kent, the Hillmans, John Skinner and Jake Krueger. Great times! I found Barrie to be a very kind, sincere person. Very talented and professional in his manner.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to Barry's family and friends. We were both very saddened to read of Barry's passing. Though we had not seen Barry for a long time, we still had fond memories of a Ford Fiesta he sold us many years ago. Our connections went back to Rivers. Pat was Vicki Anderson's roomie when I met her, and Barry and I shared a past of being ex-teachers and music biz people. Barry would likely be pleased to know I'm still driving a Ford and still involved in the music business.
Again, our sincere sympathies to all.

Dear Bette and family, though, I did not know you personally, I wish to send my deepest sympathies to you and your family. The heartache that is felt from losing a friend, husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle, grandfather, is only something that you know having experienced it yourself. I knew the Foreman family in Rivers, during elementary years. My sister and I used to spend hours out at the Nursing Home with Barry's sisters, Nanette, Lorna, Judy, and Denyse. Please forward my condolences to them as well. Two of my brothers were born in that nursing home that Barry's Mom used to run (and I might add with the love and care that only God could provide). He made the world a better place with his music and love of people. May God give you His peace and love at this time of bereavement.
Sincerely,
Mavis Clark (Winnipeg)

Becoming best friends with Shauna at the age of four, I was blessed to have a second home only two houses down at the Formans. For years I called the house, almost on a daily basis, for Shauna. Every time Barry answered he would ask "who's calling" to which I would answer "Hali". He would then ask "Hali who??" to which I would answer "Hali Peterson". We played this game for years and he even made it part of his toast to the bride at my wedding. Barry, you had a gentle soul and I will always remember your kindness, sense of humour, generosity and incredible smile. Shauna, Bette, Kent and Jason you are in my thoughts and in my prayers.

Kent, Shauna & Jason, although I truly wish I had gotten to meet your Dad in better circumstances, I was always deeply appreciative of his insight, up-beat spirit and sharp business sense. I can see in all of you special gifts that your Dad had and you have all inherited. Your Dad and Mom have a very special family with the three of you to survive them. I will be thinking of you on Monday and gathered at Central United. I trust that there will be many of the happier times in life shared and perhaps a glass or two raised in celebration of a great man. Sincerely, Cathy Steele, BHM

Betty and the family. Barry touched the lives
of many and his gentleness with people
was a marvelous example for all of us.
I knew this man for over 30 years and gained
so much in this association. We traveled

had so much laughter on many occasions.
His positive attitude and love of community

To the family of Barry Forman
I met Barry at the Austin Threshermans Reunion in the late 90's during the Fiddling Performances Award Ceremony. We got to talking and the subject of Aviation came about. He lent me some aviation books to give to my husband who was study to become a pilot. Hence a friendship was born. Barry took us flying in his Mooney over lake Manitoba, and during one of his visits to our Restaurant we convinced him to plan his fiddle for us. I remember teasing him that it was his baby as he had it wrapped up in a beautiful blanket. He mentored my husband a few times during his studies to become a private pilot, and was proud of him when he did. Barry will be missed by us and I will never forget how his laughter showed through his eyes.

I am totally blown away to know that Barry or Mr. Forman, as I knew him, has died. Like some others, I did not know he had moved to the island - I am sure I would have enjoyed visiting with him, though I wouldn't expect him to remember me.
My mother used to speak of Barry running about the house as just a little tyke when she stayed in the nursing home operated by his mother at the time I was born in 1949. I don't seem to remember that at all, but knowing that he was there when I made my entrance into the world made me feel a certain link to him.
He was my Grade 11 homeroom teacher at RCI. He sometimes used to smear blobs of jam on my test papers, but I didn't mind. I considered it a personal touch, showing how hard he was working, taking papers home to grade. I thought it was so kool that my teacher drove one of those fancy new Mustangs.
I recall one year when my class had a chemistry teacher who found the subject as challenging as we did, so part way through the year Barry began teaching us about chemical formula and the periodic table. Suddenly I could understand. I appreciated his clarity in explaining new concepts and his patience.
Won't it be fun to meet him again in the heavenly country - I hope there'll be guitars and violins and drums there.
My sympathy to the family.

Shauna,
I received the terrible news of the death of your beloved, darling papa on Thursday evening from your mom. Shauna, I have struggled ever since to find the words to comfort you and have written note after note, all to no avail because I have been so acutely aware that I can do so little to take away the pain and sorrow that I know you, and your beautiful family, are suffering during this time of loss. And so it is in this final attempt that I am at last admitting defeat and accepting that I can only write inadequate words knowing they cannot hope to alleviate your suffering. But if my words can at least convey to you how deeply I care for you and how much I suffer myself knowing what you are going through at this time, then my words, however clumsy and imperfect, are not in vain.
Shauna, your father was taken far too soon from you all. There is nothing else that can be added to that. For myself, I have taken such comfort from reading in his obituary that love prevailed above all because, in the end, it is that pure and perfect love that underscores for us all what is really important in life. Shauna, your father is such a large part of who you are, you will carry him with you always. In your grief and sorrow, may this truth bring some small comfort . . . I wish I wasn't so far away from you at this time. I love you, Shauna, please know that, and I am here to give whatever refuge I can when you are ready for it. I will do all that I can to be in Calgary as soon as I possibly can. We are all carrying you and your family in our thoughts and in our prayers; this will be especially so this Monday at 11 am. Please give my special love to Bette and my love and condolences to all of your family at this time.
with much love, always

I am deeply saddened to learn of your Dad's passing. You are so blessed to have had a strong, loving, kind and thoughtful father....a pillar for you all and what he represented to me as well. I imagine the comfort in knowing he was always there, to be relied upon, unconditionally, at any time, in any way, if need be. Solid as a rock. He allowed me to feel a small bit of this comfort, looking out for me on a number of occasions in my life. This made him a remarkable person in my mind and gave me a glimpse into what a wonderful father and human being he was. No matter our age, we are still always children who want our Daddy's and I just want to say how sorry I am that you have lost yours. His memory lives on in the way you live your life each day and therefore in the lives of your children...and theirs too.

Kent and extended family. I have lost a great friend and little things like eliminating his e-mail address from my book today makes me sad. Thanks for honouring me with an invitation to speak.
regards to all. Bill Turner, CKLQ
Had I had the courage to do so - - - here is the text I had prepared......................
Coming over here today I thought that likely Barry would get a good chuckle out of seeing me behind a pulpit.
I have no doubt that most of you here could write your own story about Barry Forman and I also expect there would be a common theme to all of them.
My story may be somewhat unique due to the fact that Barry did a live 60 second radio commercial on Cklq almost from the time we went on the air in 1978. There were two things that Barry would say to me once in a while. One was "how many years have we been doing this Bill?" Neither of us knew the answer. The second thing he'd say was "you're going to have to write book someday!" And I told him that if I ever DID, he'd be in it.
It was a tremendous commitment when you think about it - calling me at the same time every week day for so many years and I can tell you he only missed a handful over the many years he was on the air.
And I learned VERY early in our relationship just how easy it was to make Barry laugh! When it became apparent to me that his funny bone was so very near the surface, thus began the game we played - - - to see what I could say or what story I could tell him just before we went "live" that would have him on the verge of "losing it" during those next 60 seconds.
And it was all about timing. Let me say what incredible timing Barry had. He was to call me near the end of the first song played after 7:30. No matter what the tune - old or brand new - his musical training meant that he'd ring my phone usually with less than 30 seconds left in the song.
I'd answer it - I'd hear "it's Barry" and away we'd go.
Then there were the morning when Barry might phone a little early and it was usually because he had a reason. Just to chat or bounce something off me, but never often to set up the live spot. He didn't want it to sound rehearsed - and believe me - it wasn't.
On the mornings that he phoned in early enough, I'd have a chance to say something or tell him a joke that I just knew he'd find funny - and it wasn't hard as I said before. Barry would laugh at almost anything I said -
old or new and I would time it so that the punch line was delivered a split second before going live. Then he'd giggle or choke it back and somehow manage to get through the spot. I reminded him one time that he was paying us so I could torture him like this, but he seemed to like the challenge.
I recall vividly the time I scored the most points in our little game.
Barry called right on time one morning - just as the song was in its final few bars. I punched the button on the board to answer the phone with, (and in the Queen's voice) BUCKINGHAM PALACE, QUEEN SPEAKING!" That would have been one of the mornings when even my co-workers would ask, "what did you do to Barry this morning?"
I thought for quite a while about what my last words should be today, then decided they should be the same as they always were ……..Thanks Barry !

May God's Love Comfort and Strengthen

We did not know that Barry
was residing in Victoria,
considering that we moved to Vancouver Island, eighteen months ago,

It would have been a great opportunity

We have many fond memories of the time when I (Dave Bilkoski)
along with Roy Forrest, Henry Redekop and Barry Forman

"The Country Gentlemen",
for the Live CKX-TV television show that aired 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM
Tuesdays through Fridays under the name
"Lunch, Look and Listen"
during 1961, 1962 and 1963.
In addition Barry and
The Country Gentlemen hosted the Live CKX-TV Co-op Search For Talent Shows

We played for hundreds of Dances,

Great fellowship, harmony and memories
