Obituary of Clarence John Gilbert

Clarence John Gilbert of Brandon, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, September 24, 2011 after a short illness, at the age of 83 years. Clarence was born on January 16, 1928 to Fred and Kate Gilbert, and spent his younger years on the farm and attended a country school. He played some hockey, enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing shuffleboard and cards. Clarence drove a gravel truck, latter working at Shilo where he retired in 1991. He liked the farm, doing chores and traveling to horse shows, visiting with friends and watching his family compete. He also enjoyed the family race horses. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Wilma, son Fred (Alice), daughter Beverley (Allen), grandchildren Wendy (Chad), Derek, Jamie-Dee (Daryl), great-grandchildren Trace, Parker, Jessica and Shelby. Clarence is also survived by brother, Alec and sister Florence. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Stan, More and Don, sisters-in-law Isobel and Ann, as well as many other relatives. Clarence was always happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Chris Arthur officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery.
