Obituary of Mabel Laura Elizabeth Trelka

Mabel Laura Elizabeth Trelka passed away surrounded by her family at Fairview Home, on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Mabel was born in Brandon, to parents Lyall and Mabel Simpson on June 3, 1923. She married the love of her life Charlie Trelka on July 5, 1944. She was a stay at home Mom to Susan and Joe until the mid-1950's. She entered the work force at Highway Lunch, Shamrock Lunch and then found her niche at Pue's Interior Furnishings. She had a natural flair for interior decorating. She was a proud lifetime member of the Sokol Association and a member of St Joseph's Polish National Catholic Church. She participated in many activities and fundraisers for both. She loved her bowling, both with Charlie, and later her "bowling ladies". She made many a trip to bowling tournaments in Canada and the US. She did some traveling to the US, Hawaii and Mexico. Mabel and Charlie were the first residents of Sokol Manor. She loved to crochet, knit and put puzzles together. She was very supportive of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very determined person, which was very evident when she obtained her driver's license at the age of 66, after Charlie's death in 1989. She still spent summers at their cabin in Grey Owl campground. When she moved into Fairview Home she made sure she attended all of the activities available to her. Mabel is survived by her daughter, Susan (Bob) Ash, son Joe (Helen) Trelka; grandchildren Dana (James) Avison, Deron (Chelsey) Ash, Tracey (Cory) Rodger, Jolene Morcombe, Brittany (Andre) Trelka; great-grandchildren Ben and Katie Avison, Easton Ash, Matthew, Kristopher and Tyler Rodger, and Brooklyn Morcombe. Also surviving is her sister Jean Williamson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ted and Marlene Trelka and special nephews Terry (Heather) and Bobby (Alissa) Trelka and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, mother and father in-law, four brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and two precious wee great-grandsons. A private graveside service was held on Monday September 19, 2011 at the Brandon Cemetery, with Father Jerzy Urbanski officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff on the 2nd floor of Fairview Home for taking such wonderful care of Mom, and for always making her feel so special.
