hi Betty,
Please accept our deepest regret at not attending Peter's service. Murray and I were traveling in the east and we are back in winnipeg today.
Peter was an outstanding individual. He exhibited great love for you, Marcus and Katy. We are happy that the last time we saw peter was at katy's wedding. We will be able to recall that happy memory and of course we will always remember both of you at the tournaments and ball games cheering on Katy and her team mates. Be well and we send our love to you, Marcus and Katy.

Although I only got to know Peter over the last couple of years while we were involved in the Brandon Wildlife Junior Rifle Program, I am a better person for knowing him. As both a mentor and a friend, he will be dearly missed. The level of kindness and compassion he displayed while instructing students in the program has left a lasting effect on all those whose lives he touched. Meet you on the range my friend, meet you on the range.....

I was very sorry to hear of Peter's passing. I was an inspector with Peter at the Maple Leaf Plant. Though we only worked togerther for three short years (ironically enough starting at the same time and leaving at the same time though for very different reasons) I grew to admire him. He was a great co worker and a friend. His quick witt on stressful days and his little jabs when he knew you needed a laugh. I have often thought about him lots since I left and smiled and laugh about some of the times we had, especially on ngihts. Rest in Peace Peter, you will be greatly missed.

Betty and family,
Please accept our belated condolences concerning the passing of a wonderful colleage and former classmate. Peter was a quality individual whom I thought alot of during our school years. We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of his passing not knowing that he was battling cancer. I hope it helps to comfort you and your family in some small way to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you through these difficult days. In reading his obituary , Peter was obviosly a very loving and caring husband and father. He will be saddly missed but fondly remembered by all his former classmates.

Betty, Marcus and Katy,
Our sincerest sympathies on the loss of your husband and father. Peter looked after dogs and cats for us, and even called us back when we left a message in the middle of the night once when Keegan and I were nursing a cat with an eyedropper of fluids one night to pass toxins she had been accidently exposed to, and assured us we were doing exactly the right thing to flush them from her body. We always said that he was the best vet we knew.
Our family was deeply saddened to hear the news, our children are much the same ages and we have memories of watching Katy and Kelcey when they played Varsity volleyball at Vincent Massey and graduated together, and of a summer when Katy helped us out at our store. We wish you all strength as you deal with this difficult time.

Peter was in one of the first classes I taught as I began my teaching career in Deloraine back in the fall of 1971. It was such a joy to see these hard-working but also fun-loving students each day. Though you do do not know me, please know that I am thinking of you. My sincere condolences to all members of Peter's family - he was taken much too young.

Betty, Marcus and Katherine, you do not know me, but I went to school with Peter in Deloraine. I would like to say we were friends. Always competing with each other to see who would get the top grades in the class. I never kept in touch with Peter after high school, but I did keep track of where he was and what he made of his life. I was happy to see that he did so well in his professional career and that he had a wonderful family. I was shocked to hear of his passing and I wanted to express my condolences to you. Peter left this world far to soon and I am certain you will miss him dearly. I just wanted you to know that there are lots of people thinking of you. Even some of us whom you do not even know. Peter touched a lot of people and we are thinking of him at this time.

Our most heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your wonderful husband and father. Not only was Peter an amazing vet, but one of the best fans on the ballfield. The wonderful father he was shows in the two most awesome well-mannered beautiful children you two have raised together. Cherish all those precious memories and all the fun you had together. Know that he will be looking down on all of you from above, as he is now at peace.

Peter was my pets' vet. He was the best vet in the world! We all loved him! My three dogs and one cat thought he was awesome! He was so kind and compassionate. When I had to have one of my dogs and one of my cats put to sleep, he came to the house to do it. We were devastated when he stopped working at Brandon Hills Veterinary Clinic. But I was even more devastated to read his obituary in the paper. I am so sorry about his death. My heart goes out to your family. He was an amazing man.

i was sorry to hear of Peter's death. Prior to my move to Winnipeg he took care of all of my animals at Brandon Hills. When I left Brandon it took me several visits to various vets here to find one that gave the same exemplary, compassionate care that Peter did. It is a goal all veterinarians should aspire to.
My condolences to the family.

Peter was quite possibly one of the kindest people I have ever met in my life. My husband Glenn and I had our cats under his care for many years, and I know I speak the truth when I say that thanks to Peter's care, they outlived all expectations. He was a creative thinker, and I always appreciated his hollistic and dignified approach. I also knew that whatever happened to my pets, they were in the best possible hands. I can only hope that Peter knew how much that meant, and in what high regard he was held by his patients' owners.
Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss.

My deepest condolences to you on the loss of your husband and father. Peter was the most special vet to my pets for many years. I then had the pleasure to work with Peter at Brandon Hills for many years. We shared many good talks in the staff room - he spoke so proudly of his children and their accomplishments in school and sports. I, of course talked of my kids (dogs & cats) !! He was always glad to listen and offer advice. He was there for me when I lost my first dog Ace. He was the most patient and compassionate vet. He became a trusted friend, and I will hold fond memories of him always. May your memories bring you comfort in the days ahead. My thoughts are with you all.

My condolences to you and your family at such a sad time in your lives. You were so blessed to have such a caring man in your life. He was an amazing vet with animals of all kinds. So calm natured. Peter was my vet for many years with my beloved dogs and I was very picky to say the least. He treated them like humans. I'm just so shocked at his death. He was an amazing and very talented man which you will have long memories to keep in your heart forever. May his memories go on forever in the hearts of your loved ones.
Sincerley and with kindest regards,

Please accept my condolences on Peter's death. Though 'condolences' represent so little of what I am feeling.
I have just now heard of his passing. I cannot believe…..
You'll forgive me if I don't refer to him as Dr. Van Deveire. To me he was always 'Peter'.
I cannot even begin to know where to start……… He was our vet. But he was also so much more.
He took such excellent care of all my kitties. But then Winston came along……
Winston…..
Winston was my baby. I rescued him at approximately 5 days of age and hand reared him. Sadly, I believe that because of that (well, the lack of his real mum and her antibodies) Winnie developed problems as he aged. Long about 1 year of age he was having tooth problems.
Long story short……… he ultimately had to have weekly injections of steroids to control this. Sounds bad enough but you did not know Winston. He was my baby and, apparently, he considered me his 'Mum'. But as for vets……..
Peter saw us through the beginning years of that. Times which included my beloved Winston shooting up like a rocket from my arms prior to his shot. Peter wiping the blood from my neck, ever so gently, where Winnie's claw had caught me another time. And more, so much more. Winnie was a fighter. In every sense of the word. Always, always Peter took the time with Winnie. To try to settle him. Talk to him. Talk to me. Can't honestly say as to how Winnie ever liked Peter, but he did tolerate him, insofar as he was able.
But it's all water under the bridge now. Except that I have never forgotten Peter. Held out hope that after the 2 years had passed he'd 'surface' again somewhere…. Such was not to be, it seems.
I made an appointment for one of my kitties with Brandon Animal Clinic today. They know me well. They were who I went to after Peter left. So did many others. Caroline told me of his passing and I am still in shock. This is just not right. But it is a fact so we have to accept it, I suppose.
But…….
I know you will be receiving many, many stories such as mine (and trust me – this one is but the tip of the iceberg! Peter also was there for all my other animals always. It's just that it's with Winston that I felt – and feel – the most gratitude to him. For what he gave to us. The patience he demonstrated. The care he provided. The ear he was willing to lend when I yammered on and on. The gentleness of his touch. The kindness of his words (to the cats as well as to me). The trust, absolute and ultimate trust, he inspired.
I thought of him as a vet, certainly. But also as a friend. I liked him. A lot. But, perhaps even more importantly, I trusted and respected him.
I am so very, very sorry for your loss. Our loss. He was too young. Had too much yet to give. Too many babies to help and save. And w-a-y too many of their 'mums and dads' to help through their illnesses and, yes, deaths.
My heart is with you all.
Alexis MacLean (and cat family)
(sadly, Winnie passed this last February. The only reason he lived as long as he did was because of Peter and then, after he left, Sandy. As Winnie was my heart and soul, I am forever indebted to Peter especially for getting him through those first several years, when others told me that he had no chance and that I should put him to sleep. Largely because of Peter, I had my Winston for 10 years. I am FOREVER indebted to him for that.)

My very deepest sympathies to all of you on the loss of your husband and father. What an honor it was to work for years with not only a wonderful veterinarian, but a kind and thoughtful man. I remember many chats in the staff room from jobs he was doing around the house to making wine and shooting at the Gun Club. I have thought of Peter often since I saw him last and will always smile when I remember a witty sense of humor and high fives in the hallway. Thinking of you, Carolyn

My deepest sympathy is extended to your family in the loss of your husband and father. Peter was our vet a few years ago and I will also remember the kindness and compassion he had for my family and our dogs. I remember when Peter was the "Team Dr." when Marcus and my son Tyler played on the Boys Provincial team. I believe it was in Morden. My husband was the coach. Peter had a tough job because all the boys came down with heat stroke and we were unable to field a team for one of the games. Peter made sure all the boys were drinking enough fluid and staying in the shade. The team was lucky to have him. May your memories give you comfort in the days to follow. The Byczkowski Family

Thinking of your family with heavy hearts. We were very saddened to hear of Peter's passing. Both Frank and I felt honoured to know and privileged to work with him. It never failed when Frank was away I would need a vet - Peter was always so good to me. I will never forget that. I enjoyed chatting and catching up with Peter after hours at the clinic, he would beam when he told me about the kids and what they were up to. I liked to hear of his shooting contests and his carpentry projects. I will hold fond memories of an old friend and think of you often. Joanne
