Obituary of Edith Dorothy (Dot) Schrot
It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Edith Dorothy "Dot" Schrot on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Assiniboine Centre at the age of 91 years. Mom was born on the family farm in the Crosby District on October 24, 1919, to Bill and Grace May. She attended Crosby School and in her early years spent time on the family farm with her three sisters and three brothers. Dot married Ernie Schrot on October 18, 1941. Dot stayed with family for the first few years of their marriage, as Ernie had enlisted in the 12th Manitoba Dragoons and left for the war shortly after they were married. Dot and Ernie had four children; Kelly, Kay, Arthur and Marty. When Ernie returned from the war, they moved to Churchill, MB where he was employed as a firefighter for the DND. They lived in Churchill until 1958, when Dad transferred to the fire hall at CFB Shilo. Mom and Dad retired in 1970, and moved to Brandon. Mom loved to spend time with friends and family. They travelled to Britain to visit her father's relatives, and to Holland and Belgium to visit some of Dad's war time friends. They also attended most of the Dragoon reunions. Mom and Dad had 40 acres of land in the Treesbank area and built a cabin. Mom called it the farm, and they spent many happy days there planting trees and enjoying the outdoors. Family gatherings usually took place there at least twice a year and she attended them all. Mom was a home maker during most of her life and a very good one. Dot was predeceased by her husband, Ernie in 1992, her mother and father, Bill and Grace May of Binscarth, her sister Anne Polding, brothers Harold and Walter May. She is survived by sister Margaret (Stan) Clayton of Yarmouth, NS, sister Joyce Clark of Calgary, AB, brother Murray (Frances) May of Smithers, BC; son Kelly Schrot of Shilo, his children Shawn and Jason Schrot; daughter Kay (John) Mowbray of Minnedosa, MB and their children Reigan Lestrat and Heath Mowbray; son Arthur (Monele) Schrot of Winnipeg and his children Andy Schrot and Erin Barnsdale; son Marty (Val) Schrot of Brandon, MB and their children Taryn and Gus Schrot. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all who she loved dearly. A service to celebrate Mum's life was held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 with Pastor Wendy Thom officiating. A private interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in Dot's memory to a charity of their choice.
