Obituary of Michael John Boris
BORIS: Michael John Boris passed away peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2011 at his residence, Fairview Home. Mike was born June 5, 1913 to John and Kathleen (née Sklar) Boris in Brandon, the oldest of four siblings. Times were hard growing up in the 1930's, and he quit school early to go to work to help put food on the table. He was a good son and looked after his parents their whole life. In 1935, he was hired by the CP Rail Company where he worked his way up to conductor. Mike served overseas in WWII and luckily came home unscathed, where he returned he resumed his job with the CPR. He made many good friends during his years with the railway, and finally retired in 1979. He was an avid fisherman in his younger days, and there were many family fishing trips. He also loved to play music and took up the violin in 1979, playing with numerous groups over the years. He met and married Elva Gilchrist and they spent many years together, until her passing in 2006. Mike was a life member of the Brandon Elks Lodge No. 14. Mike was predeceased by his parents; John and Kathleen; brother Peter; sisters Irene and Anne Burns; sister-in-law Mary; brother-in-law Leighton Burns and his wife Elva. Mike is survived by nieces; Joan Rae (Rob), Bonnie Mitchell (Tom), Bev Hillman (Ken); nephew Bob Burns (Teresa); step-son Larry Gilchrist (Donaleen); step-daughter Judy Fulton (Winston); as well as many great nephews, nieces; step-grandchildren and special friend Marguerite Reid. A funeral service to honor Mike's life was held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, on Friday, April 1, 2011 with Father James Ahaneku officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike may be made to a charity of choice.
