Obituary of John James "Jim" Kalmakoff

KALMAKOFF: John James (Jim) Kalmakoff, Charlotte's beloved husband for 47 years; father of James and Dwayne; and grandfather of Justin, Jenessa, Brittany, Hanna, Lacey, Ashton, John and Christopher, passed away suddenly at his residence on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the age of 63 years. Jim was born in Brandon on November 28, 1947 to Mike and Agnes Kalmakoff. He grew up and was schooled in Brandon. Jim was employed with DOTC as a housing inspector for 25 years. Prior to these years, Jim's many endeavors included carpentry, erecting steel buildings and general construction. Upon his retirement in 2004, he actively enjoyed working full time rebuilding and restoring his numerous older vehicles, one in particular being his 1948 Chevy Coupe. Jim loved to share his passion for his vehicles, as well as helping his friends with their vehicles. Jim's favorite times were spent with his grandchildren and family; camping, fishing and visiting with his numerous relatives and friends in Saskatchewan. Jim is survived by four brothers; Bill (Kim), Vern (Kathy), Michael (Michelle),Lenny; and four sisters Sally (Sylvia), Susie (John), Darlene and Denise. Also left to mourn are his step-sisters, step-brothers, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as Boomer, his Chow Chow. Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Tina in 1989; parents Mike and Agnes; stepfather Phil and sister Annie. A funeral service to honor Jim's life was held at Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, April 1, 2011 with Rachelle Wilk officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were sons James and Dwayne; grandsons Justin, John, Christopher, Ashton Kalmakoff; and his cousin Kenny (Muffin) Pritchard. The family considers all who attended to be Honorary Pallbearers. Charlotte, James and Dwayne would like to extend their sincere appreciation to family and friends who have been so supportive during this very difficult time. Special thanks to the staff of Brockie Donovan for their guidance, the R.C.M.P. for their kindness and compassion, and the Paramedics for their heroic efforts. Thank you also to Vern and Kathy, and to my special niece (daughter) Annie, and Kelvin for their support, help and love.
