Obituary of Gordon Charles Cudney

CUDNEY: Peacefully of natural causes, we sadly announce the death of Gordon Charles Cudney, in Brandon, Manitoba, at the age of 95 years. Gordon was born at Fergus, Ontario, on June 17, 1915, and moved to Brandon as a young man where he met and married Gertrude on January 15, 1941. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Ellen, and numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Gertrude, who was by his side at his passing. He also leaves behind two sons, Alex (Susan) and Robert, grandchildren, Tiffany (Chris), Troy (Sheila), Britt (Paul), Krista (Sean), Nancy (Chad) and Andrea (David), and great-grandchildren, Taliesin, Drew, Tatum, Lucas, Madison, Abigail, Carter, Tyler and Oliver. He will especially be missed by his Chihuahua, Princess, whom he doted on and adored. Gordon served overseas during World War II and, upon his return to Brandon, worked 37 years for Federal Pioneer in Brandon, Manitoba, as a sheet metal fabricating foreman. He was a self-taught gunsmith, President of the Junior Rifle Club, Cub Leader and an avid member of the Game and Fish Association. Gordon had a passion for building model wagons, planes, Red River carts and bird houses. Gordon was always willing to lend a helping hand without any expectation of financial return. The gratitude of the people he helped was ample reward. He delivered Meals on Wheels to "old people", as he referred to them, when he himself was 85 years of age. He maintained his faculties, wit and sense of humour to the end. A special thanks to Dr. Butler and the staff at Brandon Hospital who brought him back from the brink on more occasions than one can remember. At his request there will be a private family memorial service. "For what is it to die, but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun, And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered."
