Obituary of Helen Mae York
YORK: Helen Mae York passed away peacefully on Monday, August 9, 2010 in Brandon at the age of 92 years. Helen was born May 5, 1918 on the family farm at Harding, MB. She was the first of three daughters born to Edmund and Florence Langley. She schooled at Harding and was a member of the first high school class at Kenton. She furthered her education and became a teacher, teaching at Springhill and Winchester Schools. She met her husband Bruce York while teaching at Winchester and they were married in 1943. After a few years at Arden and Neepawa they moved back to her family farm for a few more years before settling for good in Brandon in 1956. She was predeceased by Bruce in 1998 and sister June in 2008. She is survived by daughter Carole (Doug) sons Larry (Carol) and Glen (Linda); grandkids Kirby, Lyndsey, Shelley, Dale; Yvonne great grandkids Sheldon, Owan, Arron, Ceanna and Kylie; sister Ila; brother-in-law Vern (Gwen) and many nieces, nephews and friends. Church, family and friends were most important in her life. Mom reached out and touched many lives and she will be missed by all. A service to celebrate Helen's life will be held at Knox United Church, 451 – 18th Street, on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
