Although a little late, hopefully this message will be forwarded to the family of Art Dinelle.
After seeing the obituary in the Free Press I would like to offer my condolences to you in the passing of your father. Way back when, I was a grade 6 student at Parkdale School in Flin Flon and your Dad was Principal relief for Fred Kibyson who was our principal. I remember him clearly and with fondness. After graduating from Teachers College in 1965 I returned to Flin Flon to teach the one year before I got married. That was the 1966-1967 school year. Lo and behold, my teaching position was Grade 4 at Willowvale School and your Dad was Principal there. What a pleasant surprise that was! Your Dad was always so professional and very kind to me as one of his former students. I was very sorry to learn that your Mom had passed away previously. Although I didn't know her that well your Dad often spoke of her and you kids. My condolences once again. Donna (Oak Bank, MB)

Art Dinelle was a pleasure of a man to know. I arrived in Flin Flon in 1972 and didn't immediately work in the same school as Art. I think he was at Willowvale School at the time. When the new school was built and the shop was situated there I got to know him. An interesting man ... he took his job seriously and expected a lot from the people around him. He pulled no punches and was as clear as he could be with expectations of his staff. His standards were high and he was blunt. ..hard on some who needed more coddling.
But at the same time Art loved to have fun, a fact that showed up at party times as well as at prank times. He pulled some pranks on staff and had some pretty good ones pulled on him. I still remember when we replaced his office furniture with kindergarten fixtures. He wasn't thrilled! That made it even better. Our late night visits to Art and Marion's home after the Beaver Lake Pub closed were proof of both their abilities to roll with the flow.
In the last few years it has again been a pleasure to see Art on his visits to Flin Flon. We were fortunate to spend some time over dinner and a visit to Big Island Lake. He enjoyed his friends and spoke proudly of his family.
Know that we are thinking of you and be proud of your Dad.

It is with sadness that we read of Art's passing. He was a great principal, and very good friend who always made an effort to keep in touch. We shall always remember his laughter and sense of good fun. He had as much fun with students as he did with his staff. They were all important to him. But most important were his own children and his wife Marion. He was so proud of Rick and Lynn. We know you will miss him dearly. Our condolences to you and your families

I would like to extend my sympathies to the family of Art Dinelle. I attended Willowvale School when Mr. Dinelle was the principal. He did teach me some subjects, but at this point I can't remember if he was my teacher for Grade Six or not...memory fading. I have always held him in high esteem for his professionalism, his genuine interest in each and every student, and his tireless energy. I remember his long strides as he was on the run to get yet another thing done. Power walking! I have a picture from the Reminder newspaper of Mr. Dinelle presenting me with the Ruby Joyce trophy at the Willowvale School Fair circa 1963. One more thing that sticks out in my mind was how Mr. Dinelle put a stop to some bullying that I was enduring at one point. You know how we Flin Flonners were/are famous for nicknaming residents. Well, with the last name of Woloshyn...some boys decided they were going to moniker me with the nickname of BumWasher. Needless to say I wasn't pleased. Over a period of a few days they began teasing me incessantly until finally they had me in tears. It must have been my Mom who called Mr. Dinelle, because he put a stop to it. He had the boys all lined up one day outside his office. They all apologized to me, and that was the end of that Nickname! Interesting little anecdote for your archives. I also enjoyed reading Mr. Dinelle's obituary, to learn of his upbringing (large family!) and also his tireless community work after he retired. Indeed a wonderful role model. One of my children is now a school teacher in Ste. Anne, at the English collegiate there, phys. ed. I like to think he might be remembered late in life as I have remembered your Dad/grandpa/uncle, etc. May Mr. Dinelle be remembered for many years to come, as this is what I believe eternal life to be. Most sincerely, Julie Leefe
P.S. I live in Oakbank MB now, but I read the obituary in the Wpg. Free Press, and felt it was appropriate to share my words.

James and Lynn and family; we were sorry to hear of Art's passing. It was such a surprise as we had seen him just the day before at coffee.
We had intended to come to the funeral, but were unable to attend as family from Winnipeg had come to visit and changed our plans.
Please accept our condolences.

Please acceot our sincere condolences, Rick, Lynn, and your families, on the loss of your father. It was a pleasure to know your dad and work with him at McIsaac School for so many years. When thinking of Art, the image immediately arises of a principal who truly loved kids, and wasn't afraid to show it by having fun with them - like leading the annual Hallowe'en parade in those famous sneakers. The time and energy he spent to show interest in and offer support for both students and staff brightened a lot of lives. Enthusiasm, honesty, and sense of humour were his hallmarks. His passion for living life large was contagious and we will always remember him as a wonderful person and great role model.

Sincere condolences to the Family in the passing of your Father. Art was a great principal. He knew every student by name and had a good pulse as to what was going on in his school. We always remember him in his white running shoes and he did not leave many stones unturned. Our social activities were also enriched by his tidbits of mischief. We
kept in touch and he so much enjoyed being close to his family in his retirement years...especially the baseball games. May many pleasant memories sustain you at this sad time.

The memories of your Dad that first come to mind is meeting at someone's home before going to an evening at the Lobstick Dance Club. Art would play the piano and we would all sing. Later as Kevin and Derek attended Willowvale we all respected your Dad as a Principal who was fair and proud of his students' achievments. My condolences to Rick and Lynn and their families. Your Dad was a great guy.
My sympathy to you all

I first came to know "Big D" when I started school at Willowvale, we were all so scared of him. He seemed to know everyone by their first name. Then in grade six he was my half time teacher, and found he like to have fun and was always fair to everyone. I was lucky enough not to ever have to go to his office at the top of the stairs, as it was rumored he had the biggest strap in his desk with spikes on it, to make it really hurt. Then as a school board member I found that he was a man who was only concerned with the kids being first, I think the motto he lived by at work. He served our community for many years and we are all just a bit better off because of "Big D" My deepest condolences to the family.
