Dear Mclean family,
It is with great regret that we received the letter about Olie passing away on July 19th his 91th birthday. We would like to express our condolences to you all on your loss.
In the forties Olie and his two brothers came to the Netherlnads to fight for our freedom. Unfortunately Harold did not return. Olie and two fellow Canadians came to live with my family in Borculo. I was six years old at that time. My parents always spoke of Olie with great respect and he could easily talk to them about the loss of his brother. They also had many happy times together. In the evening he would often have a drink with my father. He never forgot that he had eaten rabbit. He often wrote about that.
He wrote us a letter every year for Christmas, until he could no longer do so himself. Each time he wrote that he would come over to The Netherlands the following year. Unfortunately it was never to be.
However, along with Margaret he gave a warm welcome to our daughter Ellen who visitid on holidays. We visited them in April 1999. Everyone in Hobbs Manor knew that we were coming and he obviously enjoyed the visit very much. My husband and I had a great week.
Olie reached a respectable age and has now earned his rest.
Our thoughts are with you.
Yours sincerely,
Willy Post ter Beek

I was so sorry to hear of Olie's death. Many memories came crashing through when I read his obit. all of them were pleasant ones, dances with him playing, Lodge travel and so many others. There are getting fewer and fewer of us old Mount Vernon kids. May all the memories that the family share help you through these times. Lloyd
