Obituary of Betty Louise Holcomb
Betty Louise Davis was born in Ohio March 3, 1920. She passed away on February 5, 2014. She spent her youth attending grade school in Mills City, Oregon and graduated from Woodburn High School. She went on to attend Linfield College. She married Fred (Jack) Holcomb on June 13, 1942 and this year would have marked their 72nd anniversary. As a Navy wife for 24 years, she became well-versed in moving every two years throughout the West Coast, Gulf and Eastern shores of the US-wherever her husband was stationed. She and Jack spent many winters in New Zealand. Since Jack's retirement they visited most of Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and she had a life-long enjoyment of the Oregon Coast. Betty was an avid golfer and was the first in the family to have a hole-in-one. She was a survivor of the 1989 Honolulu-New Zealand flight accident in which the cargo door unlatched and several other passenger lives were lost. Betty had a great love of animals of all sorts but especially for dogs and birds. She also greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty is survived by her husband Jack; her two sons, Michael (Nancy) of Junction City and Gary of Eugene her five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Chalmers, Kristen van Breemen, Emily Holcomb. Grant (Justina) Holcomb and Andrew Holcomb; and her 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family and dear friends. A memorial service will be held at Spencer Creek Lutheran Church, 86286 Pine Grove Road, Eugene on Sunday, February,16th at 3:00 PM.
