Obituary of Chan Yook Hai Choy

CHOY: Chan Yook Hai (Jade) Choy passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Fairview Personal Care Home. Mrs. Choy was born in Toisan, Guangdong Province, China on July 10, 1909. She immigrated to Newdale, Manitoba in 1958 to join her husband Soo in the Paris Café. They worked and lived in Newdale until 1972 when they moved to Brandon to open Soo's Chop Suey House. She worked beside Soo and her family until they retired in 1982. Mrs. Choy was predeceased by her husband in 1983 and son-in-law Wai Kai Gin in 1993. She is survived by her four children: Gene (Susan) of Seattle, Sue-Sem of Burnaby, Kenny (Rebecca) of Brandon, and Sue-On (Bill) of Brandon, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A service to celebrate Mrs. Choy's 101 years of life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8 or to a charity of choice.
