Obituary of George Richardson

RICHARDSON: George Richardson of Brandon passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on February 21, 2010 in his 91st year. George was born July 8, 1919 in the Municipality of Cornwallis, the 4th child of Margaret and William Richardson. George went to school at South Brandon and Cornwallis, lived on the farm until 1941 when he joined the Canadian Army. He served as Corporal in the R.C.A.S.C. for two years and then was discharged for medical reasons. George married Lorraine (Lang) in Lyleton, Manitoba June 16, 1948. He then drove bus in Brandon for McCarthurs Transportation until 1952. George then worked at Anglo Oil until 1960 when he went to sell cars at Brandon Automobiles. George retired in 1982 and then enjoyed golfing, curling and traveling. George spent many hours umpping little league baseball and coaching minor hockey. He enjoyed having coffee at Humpty's Restaurant with his buddies, and trying his luck at the slots. He loved playing cards and many hours were spent playing rummy with family and his grandchildren. George was a member of the Brandon Legion for 55 years. He is survived by his wife Lorraine, son Ron (Wendy Paterson), grandchildren Riley and Savannah, daughter Sharon Horn, granddaughters Marilee and Michelle. Sisters Edith Heinrichs, Dorothy Meagher, Irene Brown, brothers and sisters-in-law Andy and Ila Lang, Reg and Jean Lang, Dorothy Downey, Marg Greaves and many special nieces, nephews and friends. Service was held on Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Brockie Donovan Chapel with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood of Central United Church officiating. Urn bearer was Don Richardson. Special thanks to the wonderful staff on A3 of the Assiniboine Centre for the wonderful care dad received during his short stay.
