Obituary of Raymond Bull
BULL: Raymond R. (Beefey) Bull passed away January 6th, 2010 at his son's home in Brandon, Manitoba with his family by his side. Ray was born in Kenora, Ontario on October 9th, 1920 to parents Florence Meadows and Thomas Bull. He had a brother, Tom and a sister, Ivy.
He started caddying at the Kenora Golf Club when he was ten years old which began his life long love of golf. Shortly after, he met and fell in love with Joyce Coppard. They became inseparable and were married September 12th, 1942 in Kenora, Ontario. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce (2007) his brother Tom (1964) and his sister Ivy (1999).
He is survived by his daughter Rae Laliberte (Noel), Winnipeg, his son Richard and wife Diana, Brandon; grandchildren Susan Anderson (Scott), Chandler, AZ, Jason Bull (Gina Mazer), Brandon, Amanda Wagner (Oliver), Toronto, Lauren Robertson (Jason), Winnipeg; great grandchildren Myles, Kate and Ava Wagner, Cameron and Rylee Anderson, and Easton Robertson.
Ray started working for Imperial Oil in 1937 in Kenora. He joined the Army in 1939 and spent time in Shilo, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Nanaimo, and Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was very proud of his service, especially the note on his discharge papers saying that he was a good soldier. After the war he went back to work for Imperial Oil in Kenora He worked for Imperial Oil his entire career between Kenora, Brandon, and Winnipeg then retired in Brandon in 1986. He was a life long Legion member and was a Mason and Rotarian during his Kenora years.
He was always involved in golf. He was a member of the Board of Directors at The Kenora Golf Club, the Brandon Golf Club and the Manitoba Golf Association. He served as Tournament Chairman for the 1966 Canadian Junior Golf Championships. He also served as President of The Brandon Minor Hockey Association.
He successfully ran a marathon at 60 years of age. He never made a hole-in-one but he shot his age numerous times, the first being a 74 at the Neepawa Golf Club in 1994.
Ray's last golf game was this past summer at age of 89 with his son, grandson and great grandson, a memory we shall cherish.
A celebration of Ray's life will be held as a come and go event at The Victoria Inn, 3550 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB on Wednesday, January 13th, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
