Dad was a very quiet man who didn't like to talk too much. But there was times he would talk a lot telling stories or having conversations about hockey or sports or the work he was working on. He loved to play cards. When I was younger we would play frustrated rummy and when ever he wouldn't count he would put it on the fridge for bragging rights. Growing up if I liked something he would do it for me. When i liked basketball he put up a basketball net or when i liked tetherball he put up a tetherball up at the farm. Every Christmas we would go shopping for mom and he always made sure he got me something that i liked as well. I remember driving to the farm on the weekend and he would always stop at the store in Clanwilliam for either ice cream or a treat.
Dad always worked hard and he was really good at the things he did. When he retired he made beautiful bird houses. One was a caboose that I have one in my house and will treasure forever. He made me a huge cabinet on wheels so I had something to do laundry in our house in Winnipeg. I was just wanting a table but instead he made this gorgeous cabinet with a place to put two baskets and on the other side had a drawer and a cabinet with a door. I will forever treasure that as well. He also built a barbie house for my daughter and Mom helped him decorate it and make the furniture. I also have a clock, bowls, and candle stick holders that he made for us.
When we lived in Winnipeg Dad hated coming to Winnipeg but when we bought a house and we got possession, Dad came and helped to clean because he didn't want me to do it alone because I was pregnant. Even when we moved to Brandon Dad and Mom were over cleaning the house before we moved in. Dad was always there helping.
I was very lucky to have him as a Dad and was so very proud of who he was. I will always have wonderful memories of him and treasure the things he has left me. Dan Alex and I appreciate everything my parents did for us. I love you Dad and I am going to miss you terribly. I hope you are at peace and that you are watching over all of us. I send you kisses to heaven.
