Obituary of Maxine Jurkowski
Maxine Irene Jurkowski of Eugene, passed away on March 1, 2014 at Riverbend Hospital following surgery to repair a hip fracture. She was 86 years young.Maxine was born in August 1927 in Bernallio, New Mexico to loving parents Faye & Joseph Martin. In May 1943 she married Louis John Jurkowski in Portland, Oregon. They were happily married for 66 years and had five wonderful children.At the age of 42 after raising her family, she went on to earn her registered nursing degree at Portland Community College and worked for 20 years as an IV Therapist at Emanuel Hospital in Portland.After her retirement, Lou and Maxine built their own home and lived in Rockaway Beach, Oregon for the next 12 years and in 2003 moved to Eugene, Oregon.Maxine loved spending time with family, she was a gentle but wise woman that had the knack for giving “just the right advice” just when it was needed. She was an excellent wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Maxine was the family’s greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness and she will be sorely missed.She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her daughters, Mary (Tom) Myers of Eugene; Linda (Ron) Fleming of Langley, B.C.; Carol (Tom) Evans of Oak Grove; Sons, Stan (Marybeth) Jurkowski of Portland; John (Noriko) Jurkowski of Eugene; 12 adoring grandchildren & 13 great-grandchildren. Maxine was predeceased by her husband Lou in 2009. No service is panned.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
