Obituary of Steven Ruiz
Having fought a long and courageous battle with leukemia, Steve passed away peacefully at his home in Eugene, Oregon on March 10 with his wife Claudia and his two sons Dustin and Derek by his side. He was born on July 22, 1952 in Whittier, CA to Frank and Jackie Ruiz. Steve earned his Eagle Scout at the age of 14. He went on to La Puente High School where he was A.S.B. President and member of the water polo team. He attended UCLA and graduated from Cal State Fullerton. Steve served in the United States Air Force before moving to Eugene, OR in 1979 where he married his first wife Kristi Ruiz and raised their two sons. He began a successful career in the automotive industry. Steve worked for Kendall Automotive Group for 30 years and was a past president and active member of Eugene Executives Association. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Claudia, sons Dustin (Jessica), Derek (Amanda), step-son Scott Roger and step-daughter Natalie Roger. He is also survived by his loving mother, Jackie, sisters Sue Abatangelo (Sal), Cherie Ruiz-Brelsford, and Karen Downtain (Patrick) and many special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank. Steve was a man of great character - honest, hardworking and passionate about his family. He loved the outdoors - skiing at Mt. Bachelor, dancing, trips to the Oregon coast, fishing and hiking in Bridgeport, CA and was an avid Duck fan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. And for all who knew him, remember as Steve would say, "Life is Good!"
