Obituary of Charles Templeton

Chuck Templeton, age 82, passed away March 13, 2014 due to complications from Diabetes. Chuck was born April 22, 1931 in Portland, Oregon, to Charles and Adeline Templeton, Sr. They later divorced. He married Josephine Mart.Chuck graduated from Eugene High School in the class of 1950. Right after high school he went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a machinist, and later was their air brakes system instructor. Chuck retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1992. He enlisted into the Navy as a machinist mate in 1951, serving on the USS Talladega (APA-208) during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1953. He joined the Naval Reserves in 1953, and later retired as Chief Petty Officer in 1988. February 4, 1956 he married Norma Sumers, and they had three daughters; Karen, Kathy and Kelly.Chuck enjoyed traveling with his family, fishing, playing cards and keeping busy with the family horse business. He enjoyed coaching for Eugene Sports Program “Girls Softball” his daughters participated in, and they all were considered “his girls”. Dad never met a stranger. He was a Heart to Heart volunteer for over 12 years, at Sacred Heart and Riverbend Hospitals. He was past commander and life member for the VFW Post 293, a member of “NARVE”, a member of the Elks Lodge 357 and one of the founding members of the Oregon Appaloosa Horse Club.Chuck is survived by his wife, Norma of 58 years, his three daughters, Karen Wilson (Steve) of Eugene, Oregon, twin daughters Kathy Pataky (Allen) of Eugene, Oregon and Kelly Hovenden (Tim) of Cheshire, Oregon. Three grandchildren, Susan Pingelton (Ronnie) of Eugene, Oregon, Kristine and Katie Hovenden of Cheshire, Oregon, his beloved Dachshund, Barkley along with his sister, Bobbie Camp (Nolen) of Montgomery, Alabama, brother-in-law, Raymond Harris of Wilton, California, his loving cousins, nieces and nephews. His sisters, Eleanor Cooper and Betty Harris, preceded him in death.A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 1pm at West Lawn Memorial Park at 225 Danebo in Eugene.In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Disabled Veterans of America or to the VFW, Post 293.Arrangements entrusted to West Lawn Memorial Funeral Home.
