Obituary of Brian Gallagher
Brian Teague Gallagher was born Nov. 6, 1962, in Anaheim, Calif., to Edward and LaVonne Gallagher. He passed away on March 30, 2014. He was 51.The family moved to the Silk Creek area west of Cottage Grove when Brian was 4. There, along with his sister, Erin, he had a wonderful childhood filled with gorgeous woods to play in and lots of animal pets, including dogs, cats, goats, rabbits, horses and cows.Brian went to Jefferson Elementary, Lincoln Junior High School and Cottage Grove High School.In high school, Brian played three sports a year. He also participated in drama and was involved in several productions. He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1981.After high school, Brian took courses at Southern Oregon State College in Ashland, the University of Oregon and the University of California at Los Angeles.He managed Falcarragh Irish Imports, his family’s shop at Fifth Street Public Market in Eugene.Brian was a traveler, always seeking his next adventure. In 1987, he visited 13 countries on a backpacking trip through Europe.He also worked as a merchant seaman, and on one trip literally travelled around the world: Eugene to Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, the Cape of Good Hope, Baltimore and then home to Eugene.Along with his cousin, Larry Troesh, Brian sailed in a 24-foot sailboat from Florida to Bimini and then on to Nassau and the Grand Bahama Island. They visited eight other islands and explored many caves and coves.Brian loved his family and the Oregon Ducks. He loved to cook with his sister, Erin, and play with his dog, Fiona, and cat, Maggie.He was a writer of books and poems and a student of history.He was preceded in death by his father, Edward T. Gallagher and his step-father Donald E. Bowder.He was deeply loved by his mother, LaVonne Bowder, his sister, Erin Gallagher, and all of his extended family and friends. He will be forever missed.As per Brian’s wishes no service will be held. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
