Obituary of Terry Gent

Terry was born in Roseburg, Oregon to Fred and Donna Gent. He is survived by his two children Amanda and Cole, his parents, his brother, Brad and wife, Jan and their two sons, Tyler and Dallas and his sister, Tamyra and partner JoAnn. He grew up in Eugene and attended St. Paul’s grade school, Marist High School and the University of Oregon where he received a minor degree in Business and majored in Education. While at Oregon he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and played Rugby as a freshman. He later went on to banking school where he received his Masters degree. While at Marist High School he was very active in athletics lettering each year in football and baseball. He was a member of the first state football championship team in 1973. After college graduation he returned to Marist High School as a teacher where he was an assistant football and girl’s softball coach. He was instrumental in establishing the softball program. Terry taught at Marist for three years then went to work for First Interstate Bank as a teller in Albany and later moved to Portland for training in commercial loans. At the time First Interstate Bank was being sold he resigned to take a position at Centennial Bank in Eugene (later becoming Umpqua Bank) where he advanced to an Executive Vice President regional manager for Southern Oregon and California. His love of the outdoors was exhibited at an early age. He loved to hunt and fish and made his first hunting trip at the age of 5 1/2 to hunt antelope in Eastern Oregon. He became an accomplished hunter with a rifle and later took up bow hunting. He was a big sports fan especially the U of O and could often been seen at autzen stadium cheering on the ducks. As an active member in the community he served on the finance committee at the Eugene Country Club. He also served on the Marist Foundation for numerous terms where he was president of the Foundation. Additionally, he was active throughout the community and loved to give back in numerous programs. His death was very sudden caused by a massive heart attack. If you desire to donate please contribute to the Marist Foundation in Terry’s name in lieu of flowers. A celebration of life is being held at the Eugene Country Club on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 2:00 PM
