Obituary of Karl Lamberg
Karl Haakon Lamberg passed away on March 27, 2014, at the age of 84 of age related causes. He was born on May 24, 1929, in Oslo, Norway, to Dagmar and Karl Lamberg. He was raised in Norway and immigrated to the United States in 1952 to marry Inge Lynning Toftemark. He met Inge while she lived in Denmark and he was visiting there with his Norwegian Boy Scout troop. They were married on September 12, 1952, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eugene, Oregon. Fortunately, at that time, the church pastor spoke Danish and performed the ceremony in that language as Haakon had been in the United States only two weeks and had not yet learned English.Haakon was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 280 for over 60 years. His work as an electrician often took he and his family to temporary locations; however, Eugene was always the family home. Haakon and Inge enjoyed traveling together, especially many wonderful vacations after his retirement. Trips to Norway, Denmark, China, and a Mediterranean cruise were among a few of the destinations. He enjoyed visiting with their many friends, listening to classical and Christian music, and most of all, spending time with his family. A perfect day for Haakon would be one spent with his constant companion and wife, Inge. Before his immigration, Haakon served one year in the Norwegian Air Force as a radar operator and also completed his electrician’s apprenticeship. He was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1954 to 1956. Most of that time was spent in Okinawa, Japan. During his military service, he became an American citizen. He remained active with the Boy Scouts organization in the United States and was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church as well as the Danish Brotherhood in America.Haakon is survived by his wife, Inge, of 61 years; his son, Steven Lamberg and wife Kathleen; his daughter, Sonja Hilzinger; his grandchildren, David Lamberg and wife Lynnea, Anne Lamberg-Long and husband Isaac, Jeffrey Lamberg, Barbara Hilzinger, Christopher Hilzinger and wife Dolores, Benjamin Hilzinger, Jacqueline Hilzinger, Whitney Hilzinger, and Kathryn Hilzinger; and his great-grandchildren, Ava Lamberg and Wyatt Lamberg. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Ole Lamberg, and grandson, Joshua Hilzinger.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5th, at 2:00 pm at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eugene, Oregon. A private committal service will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park.
