Obituary of Helen Schafer

Helen passed away April 24, 2014. She was born in Portland, OR to Grant & Jessie Richards on January 31, 1919. She graduated from Roosevelt H.S. and attended two years of college. She worked as an executive secretary at the Portland shipyard during WWII. In 1941 Helen married John W. Schafer and started a family. In 1958 the family moved to Baker, OR followed by a move to Eugene in 1963 where Helen has lived for the past 51 years. Helen loved reading and crossword puzzles, her way with words and quick wit brought smiles. She new endless songs, poems, facts and conversations were lively. Helen was a wonderful source of strength and love for her family.Helen is survived by her younger brother Dave Richards and her sons, Doug (Kaye), Bruce (Susan), Gary (Rhonda), Kent and granddaughter Arielle Schafer.Helen's family would like to thank Fox Hollow Residential Care (Eugene OR) for the excellent, compassionate, care they provided Helen during the past two years. Arrangements are being handled by Lane Memorial Funeral Home.
