Obituary of Opal Norton
Opal Irene Norton was born in Nelsonville, Ohio on January 27, 1918 and died of natural causes on April 26, 2014 at Sheldon Park Assisted Living in Eugene where she had resided for six years. Opal was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Stanley A. Norton.Opal was a homemaker and long-time resident of Eugene, where she was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Eugene Gleemen Auxiliary. She and her husband Stan were active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Stan retired from the Willamette National Forest in 1974, and for a number of years they belonged to two square dance clubs, the Wagon Wheelers and Hymns and Hers.Throughout her life, Opal was an avid gardener, and loved sewing, crocheting, and making pies. She also loved children and after her own children were grown, Opal took care of many neighborhood kids in the pre-childcare center days. After Stan retired, he and Opal traveled extensively in the U.S. and in Europe. Opal also surprised her family by visiting Egypt with a tour group in the 1990s.Opal had five children. A son, Keith Norton and a daughter, Karlin Muir, preceded her in death. Opal is survived by her other children, Ken Norton of Rockville, MD, Kaye Norton of Bexley, OH, and Karol Hunt of West Linn OR, as well as six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.Arrangements have been entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary, and you are invited to access the obituary & sign the guestbook at musgroves.com.
