Obituary of Lawrence Weiss
Lawrence (Larry) Rolland Weiss was born July 13th, 1922 in Outlook, Montana and passed away due to natural causes on May 2nd, 2014. He was the son of Otto and Elizabeth Weiss and a brother to Gladys (Mike), Alice (Sue), Ray, Harry and Fred. They moved to Oregon when Larry was very young and he grew up on the family farm on Rattlesnake Road in Pleasant Hill. He graduated from Pleasant Hill High in 1940 and enlisted in the Navy in 1942. He served his country on an ammunition ship in the South Pacific. Shortly after the war, he met JoAnn Neet and they were very happily married for almost 68 years. His career started as a log truck driver. Upon advice from his father –in-law, Joe Neet, he got into the rock crushing business to build logging roads. With his brothers Harry and Fred, they started the Fall Creek Gravel Company. Later he and Harry bought Springfield Quarry Rock Products and grew it into a major local supplier of rock products. He and JoAnn were instrumental in the startup of Shangrila Corp to help their daughter Kim. He and JoAnn were able to travel widely on trips they enjoyed with the Elks Club. Larry was passionate about his family, enjoying life, working hard and loving and helping people. Larry is survived by his, wife JoAnn and two daughters, Sheri Roper and Marla Swenson and preceded in death by daughter Kim. There will be a private interment service for the immediate family. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
