Obituary of Jerry Nickelson
Jerry Dean Nickelson, of Springfield, Oregon passed away peacefully at home on April 16, 2014 at the age of 77. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.Jerry was born in Grand Junction, CO on August 6th, 1936 to the late John and Dorothy Nickelson. He lived with his mother and step-father, Kenneth Linklater in Washington as a child. He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1954 and attended Washington State University. He met his wife of 54 years, Joyce Steele after moving to the Springfield area with his family. He was drafted into the US Army in 1958 and served as an Artillery Surveyor while stationed in Korea.Jerry worked for Western Pioneer Title Co from 1962 until he retired. He was an active member of the Monday night men’s bowling league at Emerald Lanes for over 30 years. He served as Quartermaster for VFW Post 3965 in Springfield, OR for several years. Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends, but he really loved riding his 1977 BMW sport-touring motorcycle. He was a fan of all motorsports and enjoyed following NASCAR.Jerry is survived by his wife, Joyce and his children; daughter Julie (and Bob) Noor of Eugene, OR; sons; Kenneth Nickelson, Jay (and Tami) Nickelson, and Jeff Nickelson all of Springfield, OR; and his brother Darrell (and Linda) Linklater of Caldwell, ID; along with 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.A memorial service will be held at Northwood Christian Church, 2425 Harvest Ln, Springfield, OR on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11:00 am.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
