Obituary of Susan K. White
On the morning of May 12, 2014, at Sacred Heart Medical Center – Riverbend, Susan Kathyrn White passed away peacefully due to complications from a stroke, surrounded by the love of her family.Sue White (Susie Bruce) was born in Renton, WA on August 13, 1946, the fourth child of Gordon and Dora Bruce (née Olson), joining siblings Charles (Chuck), Margaret (Margy) and Virginia (Ginny). She and Ginny were raised by their aunt and uncle, Philip and Lillian Hess (née Olson) in Eugene, OR.Sue graduated from South Eugene High School in 1964 and later attended two years at the University of Oregon. One of the big highlights of her youth was traveling to England, Italy, France, and Belgium with friends. After returning from her travels, Sue worked for First National Bank.On October 26, 1968, Sue married Vern Patrick (Pat) White at Grace Lutheran Church. They had five children throughout their 45+ years of marriage---Kevin Patrick (1969), Kristen Marie (1973), Kelly James (1980), Gordon Jon (1982--living just four short days), and Carey Scott (1983). Granddaughter, Samantha Jo (Kelly), was born in 1996.In the mid-80’s Sue began what became her life-long involvement with Boy Scouts of America. She started as a Webelos den leader when her younger sons joined packs, and remained involved with BSA throughout the rest of her days. Most recently she was the Treasurer for The Order of the Arrow and worked as a clerk at the Boy Scouts of America office on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.Sue was able to travel back to England when she and Vern traveled to Ireland/ England/Scotland in the mid-90’s, and later in 2005 to visit Carey, who was then stationed there in the USAF.While taken from us too soon, we realize how very blessed we were to have her at all. After taking a bit of time to grieve and heal, there will be a Celebration of Life/Garden Party held for Sue (an avid gardener), in August, around the time of her birthday. Please visit the following website (in process) to share memories and find information on the aforementioned event - www.suewhite.heliohost.org.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America.
