Obituary of Alexander Fedirchuk
Alex Fedirchuk, of Ethelbert, MB, passed away at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, MB on July 24, 2013. He was born on March 22, 1935, to Nick and Ann Fedirchuk, in Garland, MB and grew up on the family farm with siblings Jean, Walter, Morris, Stella, Eugene and Ken. Alex graduated from high school in Ethelbert and Normal School in Winnipeg and began his teaching career in several rural schools. He married Mary Karpiak in 1957. In 1972, Alex and Mary became the parents of their daughter, Tara, and, in the same year, Alex earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brandon University. In Dauphin, Alex taught first at Barker School and then at Mackenzie School, where he dedicated many years to perfecting his delivery of Grade 7 Mathematics. Throughout his life, Alex was musical, and he enjoyed playing guitar in a number of bands. His banjo playing delighted his granddaughter, Elena. Alex liked to take spontaneous car trips along country roads, and he loved every inch of the Ethelbert home and property where he lived for the last five years. Alex was predeceased by an infant daughter Mary Anne, in 1959. He is survived by Mary Karpiak, and Tara, Mike and Elena Leach. A private graveside service will be held for Alex at a later date.
