Obituary of Florence Swintak
SWINTAK: Florence Swintak passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the age of 75 years. It is with much sadness that our family lost a mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Florence was born in Cowan, MB on March 28, 1938. She was raised on the family farm with her ten brothers and sisters. Florence attended grades 1 – 8 at Cowan School, grades 9 – 11 in Pine River and grade 12 at Minitonas Collegiate. She obtained her teaching certificate and taught for a few years in country schools. During this time, Florence met Miron Swintak (who was also a teacher). They were married on May 21, 1960. Florence became a homemaker and a mother for their two daughters and one son. They then decided to change their careers and managed a Mac's store in Winnipeg. Enjoying this, they bought a grocery store in Rossburn, naming it Swintak's M&M. They ran the store until Miron's sudden passing. Florence sold the business and moved to Winnipeg where she obtained her HCA Certificate. She worked for ten years as a HCA and then moved to Brandon to be closer to her children. While here, she continued to work as a HCA until her retirement. She resided in Brandon until her passing. Florence enjoyed gardening, spending time with her kids and granddaughters and watching game shows. She was predeceased by her husband Miron Swintak, parents Peter and Anna Boychuk, sisters Jean Kotochuk, Patricia Boychuk and Victoria Boychuk, brothers Edward Boychuk and Ron Boychuk, mother-in-law Anna Luddick, brothers-in-law Jack Horyshen, Metro Dzikowski and Peter Swintak and niece Cynthia Plustwa. Florence is survived by her daughter Noreen (Lawrence) Maduke, son Dwayne (Tanya) Swintak and daughter Darlene (John) Safrie; sisters Helen Dzikowski, Mary Horyshen, Terry (Ron) Driol, brothers Bill (Diane) Boychuk, Helar (Ann) Boychuk, Leonard (Judy) Boychuk and numerous nieces and nephews and her very special granddaughters, Nikki Maduke (Trevor Edmunds), Kayla Maduke (Juan Roos), Karli Maduke, Melissa and Megan Swintak, Chrissy and Katie Safrie. Her granddaughters were her pride and joy and many special memories will be in their hearts forever. The funeral service to celebrate Florence's life will be held at the Riverside Evergreen Chapel, Dauphin, Manitoba on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Oleg Bodnarski officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery. Donations in memory of Florence may be made to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of Canada, Box 20009, 3310 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3K 2E5.
