Obituary of Esther Bishop

Esther May Roberts was born in North Bend, Oregon on July 22, 1918 to Ephraim and Jennie Roberts. She was raised on a farm in Creswell, Oregon with her older sister Elva and younger brother Raymond. Her father also worked as a carpenter. After graduating from high school in 1936, she thought she would like to become a teacher. After attending school in Monmouth for a year she changed her vocation to being a hairdresser. She married Paul Bishop on August 25, 1940 and they were married for 65 years. They lived most of their years in the River Road area and farmed a filbert orchard. She spent 9 years at Lone Oak Assisted Living.Esther and Paul were charter members of Trinity United Methodist Church. Esther Volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher and served as UMW President from 1949 to 1951. They were also active in the Irving Grange and the Willamette Wander’s – Good Sam’s R.V. Club. Esther was a loving homemaker who most enjoyed spending time with family and friends.After Paul’s retirement they took many trips to Arizona, other locations included Alaska, Panama Canal, Washington D.C., Hawaii, Mexico and the New England states. Esther loved crafts such as sewing, knitting, creating stamped greeting cards and making a variety of Christmas candy. In later years she always had a jigsaw puzzle out to be worked on.Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her sister Elva, brother Raymond and granddaughter Diana.Esther is survived by her son’s; David and wife Mary Kay Bishop, Richard and his wife Linda Bishop, and daughter Kaye and her husband Roger Fegles. Her grandson’s Greg and Lorin Fegles and granddaughter Gina and her husband Ken Stocker.A Funeral Service will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, June 3rd at 11:00 AM.Memorial contributions can be made in Esther’s name to Sacred Heart Hospice or Strings of Compassion.Arrangements entrusted to England’s Eugene Memorial Chapel.
