Obituary of Nellie Stoner

Nell Douglas Stoner passed away June 17, 2014, of age related causes. She was a longtime resident of Eugene. having moved there in1953.She was predeceased in death by her husband John C. Stoner, and their son, John T. Stoner Nell is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Rory Cooper), of Seattle, WA; and Michael (and Sheila) Stoner, of Vancouver, WA and , several grandchildren; and one sister, of Utah.Nell was born 1926 in Twin falls, Idaho, and grew up in Hailey, Idaho, the middle child of seven born to Timothy Leroy Douglas and Cora B. Evans. After high school graduation, Nell was employed by the local bank.She loved skiing with friends and met her future husband at a USO dance for Navy personnel who were assigned to the Naval Hospital at Sun Valley.They were married in 1946 in Twin Falls, Idaho and Nell remained in Hailey when her husband was again shipped overseas about three months later. After her husband returned from overseas duty, they were on the move for a couple of years while he completed his service, and then returned to his studies for his Bachelor Degree.Nell was devoted to her family, and focused on raising their children. She was a 4H leader and then a Cub Scout Den Mother as her children grew. She loved gardening throughout her lifetime, and always looked forward to the end of winter when she could get outside again. She loved and welcomed children to their home, which was a hub of activity with friends of their children feeling welcome and coming and going, and staying in touch with Nell and John over the years. Nell will be missed by her family and friends, and remembered for her smile and generosity for all who crossed her path in life.Nell was a resident of Sheldon Park Assisted Living/Memory Center in Eugene the past several years, and most recently under the care of Sacred Heart Hospice, at her passing. The family wishes to express its gratitude for the kindness and care Nell received from her caregivers.memorial service will be held at a later time. She will be buried at Redmond, Oregon cemetery with her husband.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a favorite charity.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
