Obituary of Robert B. Litin

Our father Robert B. Litin, the nicest man we knew, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, his daughters Melissa and Allyson by his side.Bob was born in 1927 to Abe and Ruth in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Ann Louise, his wife Rita Litin, and his sister BabetteDuring WW II Bob served in the US Navy, training as a ball turret gunner then serving on the USS Reno. After an honorable discharge, Bob attended medical school at University of Minnesota, took an internship at the Santa Clara County Hospital from 1953 to 1954, followed by a residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.Dad married the love of his life, Rita Vivian Marker, on May 28, 1953. Bob and Rita moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1959, where for nearly 60 years he practiced medicine, built a wonderful life for his family, played tennis with a great group of friends, cheered the Oregon Ducks through thick and thin, and generally made friends of whoever crossed his path.Our father was a giver, teaching us how to live life through his example. His basic nature was to be positive and cheerful; he had no place in his vocabulary for everyday complaints. Instead he made everyone laugh at his precious retelling of jokes, which only he could deliver. His life with our mother Rita was one of true love, dedication and mutual admiration, and served as our ideal of an enduring relationship.Dad was very generous with his time, and passionate in his interests. Among other pursuits, he served for years as a ringside physician for amateur youth boxing in Oregon. He also volunteered with C.A.R.E. Medico, traveling to Afghanistan in 1975 to train local surgeons on urologic diagnosis techniques.We wish to thank everyone who supported our father and our family over the last year. We especially want to thank Dr. Scott Anthony “Tony” Garvey, a dear family friend who selflessly gave his time and energy to our father’s care, and single-handedly extended the time we were able to spend with our beloved father. We are grateful to have spent so much time over the last year with our father, and will cherish his warmth and kisses.Bob is survived by his two daughters, Allyson Brooks and Melissa Naito and their families, Steve and Robert Brooks, Bob, Will, Jack, Natalie and Ann Louise Naito.A memorial is being planned for later this summer, to be held in Eugene.
