Obituary of Frederick Greatwood
Frederick Edward Greatwood, 79, of Eugene, Oregon passed away on June 13, 2014. Fred was born on October 15, 1934 in Portland, Oregon to parents Spencer and Frances Greatwood. He attended Cleveland High School and Lewis and Clark College and began his career with the Naval Reserve and working for St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Company. Fred loved the insurance business and in 1967 he moved with his family to Eugene where he became a partner in Tromp & McKinley Insurance Agency. He retired in 1996 and he and his wife Sally spent their winters in Palm Desert. Fred was known by many, especially those involved with Duck Athletics or the Eugene Country Club where he served as President in 1986. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening. He gave much back to his community through his church and civic organizations and he especially loved reading to young children. He is survived by his wife Sally of 39 years, and three sons; Steve and Jay (Kelly) of Eugene, and Andy (Barbara) of Tumwater, WA. He has eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his brother Willard. There will be a celebration of Fred's life at the Eugene Country Club on Friday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) are encouraged.
