Obituary of Dale Gump

Dale William "Andy" Gump, age 90, of Eugene, OR passed away on Monday July 7, 2014.He was born on June 23, 1924 to Clyde Harry and Maggie Mae (Tyson) Gump in Nebraska City, NE. He and his future wife, Mary Frances, graduated in 1942 from Hamburg High School in Hamburg, IA.Dale enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps after graduation and married Mary Frances Greenwood on Dec. 7, 1943 in Victoria, Texas where he was stationed. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and worked for Nebraska City Public Utilities. He moved his family to Eugene, OR in 1948 and began work as a lineman for EWEB. He retired as the Safety Manager in 1982.He was initiated into the Nebraska City Masonic Lodge in 1948 with the help of his uncle and became a Life Member at Lodge 11 after moving to Eugene. Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, raising his beloved dachshunds, and wintering in Yuma, AZ after retirement. He was a loving husband and father whose greatest pleasure was being with his family.Surviving are his two daughters: Cathy McLaughlin and Pat Endicott (husband Bill) all of Eugene; a granddaughter Michelle Spangler and two great-grandchildren: Liam and Katie of Portland, OR; and sister Muriel Rhoden of Glenwood, IA. Dale's wife of seventy years, Mary Frances, preceded him in death in Aug. 2013.Family graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Lane Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Eugene with Chaplain Christine Reimers officiating.
