Obituary of Eleanor Wakefield

A celebration of life will be held for Elberta Wakefield who died July 11 of natural causes. Born in Eugene on September 30, 1925, she was the oldest of three children of Charles & Eleanor Libby. Her sisters include Jean Rainey (deceased), of McMinnville, OR and Donna Dallas, of Waldport, OR. Elberta was 88.She married Robert Wakefield on Nov. 4, 1943, in Albany. They were married for 61 years before his passing in 2005. They had four daughters: Patty (Bud) Landers, of Brownsville, OR; Peggy Green, of Oakland, CA; Bobbie (Dan) Larsen, of Springfield, OR, and Joey Wakefield, of Eugene, OR.Elberta worked in the office at Shasta Junior High School for nineteen years before turning her love of painting into a business. She loved Oregon landscapes and painted many beautiful pictures of covered bridges, historical churches and Oregon scenery. Her artistic talents also included many beautiful quilts, sewing, crochet, doll making and many other crafts. She was a member of the Junction City Art Guild. She was also an avid fan of the Seattle Mariners and seldom missed watching their games.She is survived by nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She also had one grandson and one great grandson who preceded her in death.She was a member of Sonrise Christian Church, 1300 Irvington Drive, Eugene, OR. A memorial service will be held for her at the church on Thursday, July 17, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Sonrise Christian Church.
