Obituary of Mayme Huddleston

Mayme Lou Huddleston died peacefully on Saturday, July 12 of age related causes. Mayme was the daughter of George and Julia (Clower) Biggers. She was born November 18, 1915 on a farm outside Sierra Blanca, Tx and raised in Perrin, Tx. She was the fifth of seven children.On May 2, 1936, she married Herman Huddleston and they began their life together in Mineral Wells, Tx. They moved to the West coast during WW II, spending most of their years together in Stockton, CA. Mayme loved to dance and she and Herman belonged to many square dance and round dance clubs over the years. She was an amazing seamstress, an avid quilter and loved her garden (particularly her roses). She was a hard worker and devoted to her family. She always looked for the best in everyone and her shy wit brought a smile to many.After her husband’s death, at her daughter’s request, Mayme moved to Eugene, OR. She made many friends living at Summerfield Estates – dancing, playing cards, and sewing over a hundred baby quilts donated to local hospitals. She later moved to Solvang Retirement Center where she was known to be super lucky at Bingo, an avid pinochle player and a good friend. Her last years were spent at Pine Tree Care, a foster home, where she loved her caregivers. A special thank you to all those there and the love and care they provided her through her last days.Mayme was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Huddleston and all but one of her siblings. She is survived by her sister, Esther Ball of Colorado Springs, CO; her son, Michael Huddleston (wife, Renate) of Redlands, CA; her daughter, Wanda Smith (husband, Richard) of Eugene, OR; three grandchildren (Christine Roberts, Michelle (Jeff) Leonard, and Mark (Kim) Huddleston), and seven great grandchildren.A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Millsap, TX on August 4, 2014 at 10am. Arrangements provided by Baum Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home.A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Northwood Christian Church, Eugene, OR on Saturday, August 16 at 2pm.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
