Obituary of Robert Newburn
Robert L. Newburn was born April 24, 1931 in Princeton, Illinois to Harry and Wandalee Newburn and passed away July 24, 2014, from pancreatic cancer. He leaves behind, Janice, his wife of 61 years, a daughter Marlee Fischnaller and husband Mike; two grandsons, Scott Strausbaugh and wife Anna (great-grandson, Benjamin Robert); Dan Strausbaugh and wife Jodi, (great-grandsons, Jason Daniel and Levi James) a sister, Jackie Aiken, and a brother, Michael Newburn. Bob moved to Eugene with his family in 1945 and entered Roosevelt Junior High. He graduated from University High School and, after spending two years in the army, graduated from the University of Oregon. He then went to work for the Mobil Oil Company in Portland and, after several moves, left Mobil, returned to Eugene and, with partner Alan Maxwell, purchased the Fraedrick-Skillern Oil Company. Later he changed the company name to Pacific Petroleum Corporation and then to New Pacific Corporation, where Bob remained active until his death. He was active in the industry having been named Oregon’s “Oil Man of the Year,” served as president of the Oregon Petroleum Marketer’s Association and president of the Pacific Oil Conference. Also involved in community affairs, Bob is a past president of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce, the Emerald Rotary Club, the Eugene Executive Association and the Sacred Heart Foundation. He also served as Chairman of the Board for Centennial Bank for many years. Having asked the Lord into his life at a young age, Bob became an active member of First Baptist Church, Eugene, where he served faithfully for many years. The family presently attends University Fellowship Church. Our special thanks to those from Hospice (Cascade Health Solutions) that so tenderly cared for Bob. His nurse, Zack Page, was always available to help us through the difficult times and was so compassionate to all of us. We thank you. A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at The Shedd, Tuesday, August 12th at 3 PM.
