Obituary of Donna Logan

Donna Marie Logan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014, surrounded by family. She was 85 years old. She lived a life full of love and devotion for her family and community.Donna was born on July 5, 1929, to Charles and Ople-Mae Grisso, who raised Donna and her sisters, half-sisters and half-brothers in Sidney, Indiana during the Great Depression. In her youth, Donna persevered through many hardships that would later inspire her passion for helping others in need.While attending high school in Sidney, Donna met the love of her life, Charles Richard Logan, who had returned from serving in the Navy during WWII. They were married in 1947 and were blessed with five children: Larry, Linda, Louanna, Timothy and Lenee. The family moved from Indiana to Oregon in 1960, living in Jefferson, Albany, Shedd, Corvallis, Salem, Astoria, Beaverton and Eugene. Over their 66-year marriage, Donna and Richard welcomed over 120 foster children into their home, including those in emergency.Donna gave endlessly to her community, contributing time and talents to Looking Glass Youth and Family Services, Station 7, First Place Family Center, Occupy Medical, Arts and Technology Academy, Police Officers Benevolent Association, St. Vincent DePaul, Oregon Children’s Services and the Rotarians, among others. She loved spending time with children and enjoyed hosting and attending family gatherings. Her pastimes included beachcombing on the Oregon Coast, painting, floral arrangement, gardening, and donating toys for children in need. She saw beauty and value in people from all walks of life and strived to nourish others with her unconditional support and love.She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, who passed away on June 19 of this year; her son, Larry; sisters Lavonne, Bonnie, and Annabel; half-sisters Wahneta, Roxy, Evelyn, and Roseanne; and half-brothers Pete and Bob. Her spirit is carried on by her sisters Mary Lu, Charlene, and Sally; children Linda DeSpain (Jack) of Eugene, OR; Louanna Ranney (John) of Kelowna, BC; Timothy Logan (Evelyn) of Santa Clara, CA; and Lenee Gower (Lanny) of Beaverton, OR; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is loved and missed by all.A memorial bench at Maurie Jacobs Park in Eugene will be dedicated in her honor.
