Obituary of Robert Ostrom
A resident of London, passed away at home on Thursday, August 23rd, 2012 in his 85th year. Bob, the son of the late William and Bella (Dale) Ostrom was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on July 18th, 1928 during the great depression. Predeceased by seven brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wonderful wife Shirley; sons Brad (Becky), Dave (Janet) and Brian (Jacqui) and daughter Pam (Rick). Also by his grandkids, Sean, Andrew, Trevor, Amanda, Kalyn, Laurel, Erin and Allison and great-grandsons Wyatt and Landon. Bob worked at a variety of jobs; logging in B.C. and on several big construction projects, a telegraph lineman in the Yukon, survey crews in Northern Ontario, a short stint on the Toronto Subway and also a milk man in Chatham complete with a horse and wagon. Bob finally tired of his nomadic lifestyle and put down some roots in Chatham, Ontario, where he met his wonderful future wife, Shirley. While in Chatham, Bob was very active in minor baseball and hockey, serving in various coaching and administrative positions. A long time Scout for the Chatham Maroons, he was a member of the Maroon Alumni. Bob spent the last twenty years of his working life as a carpenter at the University of Western Ontario where he served as Vice President of C.U.P.E. Local 2361. Bob truly enjoyed his years at Western and was well respected and well known by many in the University community. Visitation will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Saturday from 2:00-4:30 p.m. where the memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Bob are asked to consider Men’s Mission.
