Obituary of Vernon Burns Humphrey
Of Komoka, in his 92nd year was ushered into the presence of God, to meet his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 1st, 2012, with a welcome of “well done thou good and faithful servant”. Vern left an incredible legacy of loving God and others. A beautiful example to everyone. Dear husband of Frances Evelyn (Edgar) for almost 65 years, married June 28th, 1946. Vern was loved and admired by four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Cherished father of Larry Humphrey of Sault Ste. Marie, Celia and her husband Ron Mann of Ilderton, Sherene and her husband Larry Winegarden of Strathroy, and Darlene Humphrey. Loving grandfather of Teresa and her husband Shian Tan of Toronto, Sheila and her husband Mike Duclos of Norman Wells, Northwest Territories, Lee and Keri Mann of Ilderton, Amy and her husband Matt Ostropolec of Chatham, Jessica, Daniel and Cynthia Winegarden of Strathroy and great-grandfather of Oakley Duclos and Emerson Ostropolec. Survived by his dear sister, Laura Brydges of Michigan. Predeceased by his parents, Archie and Victoria Humphrey of Belmont and brothers Don and Lyle. He was known in the community for his generous gifts of baking pies and cooking which he freely gave to all. He always practiced hospitality. Vern was also gifted with creativity in floral design and landscaping, as well as ministering at their home property known as Fernwood Retreat Centre and Campground. The memorial service will be conducted at West Park Church, 955 Gainsborough Road, London, on Friday, June 8th, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations toward flowering trees for West Park Church or Fernwood Retreat Centre and Campground would be appreciated.
