cindy finlan posted a condolence
In 1997, 2 little boys and their mother and father moved next door. Life became so many moments for the Guiltinans and the Finlans over the next 9 years. I use to tease Chris that he reminded me of Bruce Willis (from his Moonlighting days) and he would just chuckle with that "Chris" kind of laugh. We use to argue over when the best time to plant annuals was - before or after May 24th or whether Benjamin Moore really was the best paint. A string of memories follows - Caesars on the front porch on Easter Sunday, porch musings on passing people delivered with wit and compassion, countless road hockey games, ice rinks on the front lawn, golf balls through the kitchen windows, fires in the dryer, cleaning up Bailey after the skunk, mini golf, trout fishing, bike races and of course, muffin eatings by Jake. Our first encounter with Chris was him apologetically following Jake to our front porch as he ate Ed's muffin. Both of them had infectious personalities, so all you could say was "it's okay." Chris, you were a bright light taken too soon. A husband and father who has left behind such a legacy. We will miss you. We will catch up some day,you just went ahead of the rest of us, so keep all those dogs ready and waiting. Lisa, Eric and Kevin..... always know we are here. Our prayers ...Cindy, Ed, Patrick , Ben and Claire

I have worked both for and with Chris for about eight years now. I am a dental technican. I keep all the equipment in the office running and maintained. In doing that job i have a kind of "fly on the wall" view of an office. As I work I can sit there and listen to all the goings on in a practice. I can say with all certainty that chris was loved by all his patients and staff. He had a way of making them feel so welcomed when they walked in the door. Going to his office didnt feel like going to the dentist. It was like coming home from school and your family is there to greet you. I go to many different offices and that does not happen everywhere. Chris would know such details of his patients lives. He loved to talk. He would talk my ears off on the mornings where he would come in early to do some work and it was just him and I there. We would talk politics, life, the cost of living and of course sports. He was soo proud of his boys and their accomplishments. Chris and I would worry that we would get in trouble , he from janet and me from my boss because we were gabbing so much and not really getting any work done. He was such a good man. I never ever saw him mad or upset. I will always remember his laugh. It had a way of infecting you. His sense of humor was something else. You had to know him to experience it. I will miss seeing that smile . When my mom died a few years ago he was the first to tell me that all will be ok. I can still remember talking to him about it. Going to his office was always the highlight of my week. I will miss that so very much. My deepest sympathys for his wife and boys. You have lost a great husband and father. The same for his staff. He was so much more than a boss and employer. You guys had a very special bond that i saw when i was there. Truly a family that i had a chance to be part of. To Chris i will say this... Aloha Nui Loa bro... someday somewhere you and I will have a beer and discuss the meaning of life and try to figure out how this universe and heaven works. I look forward to seeing your smiling face on that day. Until then this world will not be the same without you.

Dear Lisa, Today I came across the terrible news that Chris has died. I am so sorry. As a wife and a mom, I am heartbroken for you. And as someone who had the distinct pleasure of your husband's company in the dog park as well as the dentist chair, I am reeling from the loss. Your boys. How lucky they were to have had almost two decades with Chris as their father. They will be okay. I can't imagine a better example, a better mentor, a better man from whom to learn about life. They will take good care of you in the coming weeks and months. They've been taught well. My husband and I adopted our dog Ralph in 2003, and started going to Doige Park every morning to let him run, which is where we met Brutus and Jake...and their owner. It was shortly before your beloved Jake passed away, and I remember how emotional he was about it. I baked you brownies, because I could see that this was a family who loved each other - dogs included - wholeheartedly, and I wanted to give some comfort where it was needed. When we learned that Chris was a dentist, my husband and I started going to the practice he shared on Richmond. We were thrilled when he opened his own practice, but were able to visit him there only once before we left London in 2007. Since then, we have referred several friends to him, and I think of your family each time I pull out your old breadmaker that we bought at your yard sale. Every time we saw him, we were struck by his genuineness, his charisma, his sense of humour. That laugh. Really a grown-man giggle. It was impossible to walk away from a visit with him without feeling great. He infused life with energy and laughter. And he was just cool. I've read many comments today that describe his ability to make people feel special. I have to admit that I secretly believed that my husband and I were two of his favourite patients. Of course I now realize that this was his gift. He made a choice every day to really engage every person he met, and to take the time to connect with them. I can't say that we really knew him well, but the impact he had on our lives is real. He was a truly great man, and our hearts go out to you and your family. The Cowgers

I first met Dr. Guiltinan as a terrified dental patient. He immediately made me feel exceptionally comfortable and I knew that I had found the kindest dentist in town. I quickly realized that he was not only just a dentist, he was a caring man and he had the greatest sense of humour. His giggle was infectious, even if you did have your mouth propped open! He would sing songs (he knew the words to EVERY song!) and was so lighthearted each and every time I saw him. Very quickly, I also realized that he was incredibly smart, and I would tell him he was the smartest fella I'd ever met. He would just giggle. Dr. Guiltinan was one of the most remarkable people I have had the honour of meeting in this lifetime. Thank you, Dr. Chris for showing me how much good really is in this world. Thank you for helping me to trust again. Thank you for being You. Your Light will be missed, but the world is a better place to have know it. I learned today that Dr. Guiltinan, Chris, passed away. I am shocked and saddened. My heart felt condolences go to Chris's family, friends and collegues. The first thoughts that came to me were of how funny he was and of how Lisa and the boys were coping. Lisa, Eric and Kevin; as I read through the condolences I quickly saw that others saw Chris as I did. Chris was caring but a caring nature such as his is rare. He made people feel special and took a sincere interest in others lives and wellbeing. No wonder I drove all the way to London from Guelph after I moved to continue being a patient of his. I am greatful for having met him and I will always hold the utmost respect and admiration for the man he was. Liz
