Obituary of Jack Macklin
It is with enormous grief and heavy hearts that the family of Jack Macklin announces his passing on Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 at the age of forty-four. Jack was born to Scottish immigrants Jack Sr. and Rita in Windsor and raised in Chatham with his sister Leslie. A hard-working skilled tradesman who put himself through Fanshawe College, Jack valued working with his hands and having mechanical skills. He loved history, disliked ignorance, and loved to travel. Having met and married the love of his life, Bonnie, they worked together raising their two sons, Drew and Adam. Jack wanted to ensure that he instilled in his sons the same values that had been instilled in him from a young age: love your family, treasure your friends, and embrace life. Jack loved attending his sons’ hockey games, keeping in touch with life-long friends, and the rock band RUSH. He was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan and was rarely seen without his signature Detroit Tigers baseball hat on. Jack faced his cancer diagnosis with the same strength of character that he had shown throughout his life, as he always wanted to set a good example for his sons. Jack felt that his marriage to Bonnie and having his sons were his two greatest accomplishments, and this sentiment was never more evident than in his final weeks. He will be missed by friends and family and as he left us, in his final moments, Jack surely heard someone say “Son…grab your things, I’ve come to take you home.” Thank you to the dedicated nurses on Jack's VON Palliative Care Team and the wonderful staff at the London Regional Cancer Centre. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the London Health Sciences Centre - London Regional Cancer Program would be appreciated.
