Dr Winterburn was my mother's doctor. She was the one that gave my mom the news that a lump was indeed cancer then suggested they go sit in Springbank park for a bit and just take in the news. My mother went to her another day with chest pains and Dr Winterburn calmly told her she was going to the hospital and again saved my mother's life. There are not enough words for thank you. Other doctors should take a lesson in bedside manner and thoroughness of this wonderful woman. My condolences to her daughter, family, friends and co workers.

I have been one of Dr. Winterburn's patients since she came to the Byron Family Medical Clinic. I will miss Dr. Winterburn and her superb diagnostic skills, her brilliant mind, and her genuine compassion. She had helped me through some difficult medical issues, including a diagnosis of arthritis in my late 20s. I will also never forget hearing her hilarious story about her "first surgery" at the age of nine. To her family, I extend my deepest condolences, and my best wishes for the future. The world is a slightly less radiant place without her in it.

I remember when Dr Wayne Weston told me he was retiring and that he had found a superb replacement. He said you're going to love her. He was right. Dr Winterburn was the most caring doctor I have ever met. She always treated me with respect and humility. I loved her sense of humour and her common touch. Here's a few words of praise for Dr Dana in poetic form. The Light for Dana In all professions today there are bright stars. The Byron Family Medical Centre has lost one of its best and brightest. Doctor Dana Winterburn no longer walks among us. We will miss her smiling face in the examination rooms and check in area of the Medical centre. We will miss her sense of humour and her ability to laugh with us and not at us. We will miss her ability to listen with patience and humility. We will miss her common touch. But we should not despair for she has moved the standard of the medical profession to a new level. A level to which all should aspire. And as her light has been extinguished here on earth it has begun to shine in a better place. So, the next time you have a chance to view the evening sky, look very carefully to the north west because a new star is forming there. It may be a little hard to see right now because it's so new. But, it will grow stronger and shine brighter becoming one of the very brightest in the heavens. We can all take comfort that the light from this newest star will brighten the path smoothing the way for all of us. God speed Doctor Dana, and thanks for helping light the way. Making our lives a little easier, and a whole lot better! Ron Stewart 2012

Dr. Winterburn had been my GP since Wayne Weston retired. She saw me through a few minor illnesses and guided me through the various chronic conditions to which we seniors are prone. Her relaxed style and sense of humour, combined with her superior diagnostic skills, were much appreciated. Her skillful mentoring of a wide variety of residents means that her influence will live on for many years.

To the late Doctor Dana Winterburn's family I express my deepest sympathy. For the past eight years I have been a patient of this brilliant practitioner. In the last two years in particular, she assisted me tremendously in dealing with a chronic illness and was always there to help me make major preoperative decisions. As occasion demanded she would dedicate considerable time and knowledge in offering me encouragement and medical guidance in dealing with my health problems. Dana was a most dedicated and caring medical professional, whose contribution to the London and areas health care will be sadly missed.

We are so sorry for your great loss. Your Mom was a strong, giving and empathetic listener. She was the one to deliver 2 life changing messages to us: 1st that we were expecting Courtney and 2nd that Megan had kidney failure. She was also a great neighbour. We feel blessed that she touched our lives. She will be missed.

My dearest medical school friend, We worked so hard together, dreaming of our lives when we took care of patients rather memorized minutia. I knew you would be a great doctor some day, and from your patients comments I can see your work was as wonderful as you dreamed and your brilliance and caring shone through to all of them as it did to me all of those years ago. I will miss knowing you were always just a phone call away. You some how always made time for those marathon discussions we could have, and your incredible perspective & wit, sense of humor, and laughter will always stay with me in my heart. I don't know what to say. This is so damn tragic, I'm lost for words. Please know how special your mother was to me, and please do not feel shy about calling if you need anything! Craig Schacher '

My thoughts are with you at this very sad time. I was with Dr Winterburn on the Thursday before Easter, as she was attending to my needs, she was happily chattering about making a "Rice Krispie Rabbit with paper ears" for her daughter, a long standing tradition that couldn't be broken. She spoke with such fondness and love. Dr Winterburn cared for me and my husband. She always showed great skill, knowledge and compassion. She was a wonderful listener, her input, laced with her almost "cheeky" humour will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Please know that she will never be forgotten.
