Obituary of Evelyn G. Davis

Little Ethel Johnson entered this world February 12, 1925 in Yakima, Washington, making the 6th child in a boisterous family. Her parents, Mom Ethel and Father Frank lovingly presented their baby daughter to Hal, Gertrude, Bud, Ed and Robert. Happiness was not to last. Mom died six weeks after giving birth. Dad was away much of the times working as a dynamite setter on the highways. The raising was left to the five older siblings. When Ethel was 3 years old circumstances in the family necessitated placing the younger children in an orphanage. A couple in their 40’s showed up looking for a little girl. They were told about a little girl but there was an 8 year old brother and they had to come as a package deal. The children suddenly went from rags to riches in the home of adoptive parents Robert and Golda Woodmansee. Ethel’s name was changed to Evelyn Goldie Woodmansee. Four years later Dad Robert left the home and two years after that Mom Golda died from breast cancer. Evelyn and Robert were tossed from home to home until they were grown. Evelyn met Tom R. Davis while working at a restaurant in Seattle, Washington. They were married November 7, 1942. They had two sons, Sydney R. Davis and Robert J. Davis. Evelyn loved being a housewife and homemaker. She was an artist, seamstress and fabulous cook. Evelyn was in her element entertaining family and friends. She loved to laugh and tell stories about past experiences. She and Tom worked together to build a beautiful and happy home.On September 1, 2014 at 89 years of age she died as a result of a trauma. She will be missed by many including her son Robert and his wife Kathy, Grandchildren Erin Clark, Matthew Davis and Erica, Stacy Bennett and Benjamin Davis and Darlene. Great Grandchildren: Nathan Bennett, Katie Dixit, Krista Dixit, Kayla Bennett, Jacob Bennett, Zyla Davis, Ayden Davis, Jakob Davis and Avery Davis. She was preceded in death by her Husband Tom and son Sydney. A graveside service will take place at Gillespie Pioneer Cemetery Friday, September 5 at 1:00 pm.
